The Volksfest, which . ia the largest community relations rela-tions activity sponsored by the U.S. Army's Berlin Command, Com-mand, featured a re-created, 17-bUildlng complex of the village of San Antonio as it probably stood during Texas struggle for Independence. Instead of Mexicans storm-!ng storm-!ng the Alamo, an estimated 425,000 Berliners ' tramped through , the village during the two-day festival, "attacking" "at-tacking" ice cream, beverages, bever-ages, chili and Texas-sized "Alamo Burgers." ; 4 The Volksfest served as a reminder to German people that Americans serve the cauae; of freedom with the Berlin Brigade, just as Germans Ger-mans helped the Texans fight for independence from Mex-, ico. Among the heroes who died at the Alamo were two native Germans and 'other-of 'other-of German descent. First WAC Unit for RVri WASHINGTON .
