SPRINGVILLE, UTAH, THURSDAY, AUG ,27, 1003 PRICE, 1.25 PER ANNUM. it ' . ' 1 i ..- . . i i ..... i .. . 1 Vote The Bonds. On Saturday September 5th, 1903, a new election will be held to determine whether the City shall he bonded for $22,000 foY the purpose of burnishing electric elec-tric lights 'for the people of the Ciuy. The polling places willMje open in each district, and all registered residents of tbe City, who have paid a PROPERTY TAX, in the previous year, are privileged to vote. This election becomes necessary neces-sary because of some irregularity irregular-ity in the former election, and other steps that were fak-n, that the money lenders did not consider con-sider legal. There fftS to be much tlis- TS;i.ouinong uk-people, in relation re-lation to the matter, soars going so far as to say that the binding question ought to be voted down, and giving all kinds of wildcat reasons therefore. Those who voted in the negative nega-tive at the former election may be excused if they havn't yet seen the "light," and still vote the negative; but it would seem that those who voted for the bonding at the first election cannot can-not honorably vote in the negative neg-ative now, for by their action the Council proceeded with the work which is so well advanced that it cautiot be stopped, and it MUST be paid for. The race is completed, the timber for the lipe line is on the ground and the work under construction. All machinery has been ordered and now in transit, and wire ready for hanging, and many dwellings and business houses wired ready for the illumination. Whether the bonding question ques-tion win or lose, the work muit be paid for, there can be no re pudiation at this late day. The Council is the agent of the people, and the people are responsible for all debts incurred in promoting the electric light plant. The cheapest way out is the best way, and that is undoubtedly undoubt-edly to turn out as a unit, and mark your ballot it go at that.) Harvest and Bloom. Raymond Alberta, Aug. 21. The only gravel bed in Ray mond came in a basket of roses from Geo. Clark's garden from the banks , of dear old Hobble creek. On this small patch every native weed of Springville is gr jwing. Mrs. lirigham Scovil has one of the finest fiiwer displays here. She has recently returned return-ed from Spanish Fork where 6he was called to the bedside of her dying mother. The late showers have ensured ensur-ed excellent crojfs, and the sugir beets are very promising. Those who failed to get them thinned are cutting the volunteer volun-teer grain before it ripens, thus preventing a full crop of grain on the beet land next year. Fruit, shade and evergreen trees have mane vigorous growth, and the small fruits bore quite a crop of berries House wives are putting up cucumbers now, and tomatoes and corn will soon be ready. We found an eight pound fiat Dutch turnip in our garden this week, but it is the winter Swede that reaches the twenty pound mark. A ditch of water, from the canal, ca-nal, down Broadway to the flower mill It looks homelike. r Over two hundred men are employed on the sugar factory, which is Hearing completion and wili be ready for the ripen ing beets. There is a scarcity of help for the haying and harvesting.
