The recent huo and cry over the sheep nuisance in Hubble Creek canyon can-yon terminated Tuesday night in a people's mass meetiug at the City hall. The meeting terminated, in so far as actual results were concerned, in nothing. A fair ' attendance was present. Mayor Johnson presided, with T. 1). Mendenball as secretary. The meeting made magiiitlcnt attempt to get down to business, but there seemed to be no business present. It seemed to be the earnest desire of the people present to do something but what, could they do? Eventually they gave the City authorities a Mailing jolt, with a hint to sec that it reach the City attorney and other legal lights in high places. In the meantime roars of wrath had reached the Sheriff's office in l'rovo, and a deputy came over to investigate the .situation. At the canyon he found in one place 114 dead sheep, which belonged to the herd of a man named Harrington, of American Ameri-can Fork. The officer hired a man to attend to their burial and the cost, will ybe collected from the owner The sheep died during the recent sturm. - . - - THE OIL FEVER. It has been truthfully said that any disturbance of the even balance of health causes serious trouble. Nobody No-body can tic too careful to keep this balance up. When people begin to lose appetite, or to get t ired easily, the least imprudence brings on sickness, sick-ness, weakness, or debility. The system needs a tonic, craves it. and should not be denied it: and the best tonic of which we have any knowledge know-ledge is Hood's Sarsaparilla. What this medicine lias done in keeping healthy people healthy, in keeping up the. even balance of health, gives it the same distinction as a preventive pre-ventive that it enjoys as a cure. Its early use has illustrated the wisdom of the old saying that a stitch in time saves nine. Take Hood's for appetite, strength, and endurance, Thought He Was Nothing. "Ymir litllo birdie has beeu very, very ill," the I'aysou girl wrote to the Springville young man. "It was some sort of a nervous trouble, and the doctors said I must have perfect real and quiet and that I must, think of nothing. And all the time, dear Charlie, 1 thought constantly of you." The young man read it over and then read it through again very slowly slow-ly and put it in his pocket and went out under the silent stars and kept thinking and thinking. Just the Same Only Different. llunning a newspaper Is just like runuing a hotel, only different, says u western writer, who lias gone through the Journalistic mill. When a man goes Into a hotel and finds something on the table that does not suit him, he does not get up and kick and raisu cain with the landlord, and tell him to "stop his darned old hotel." Well, hardly. Ho sets that dish to one side, aud wades into some of the many dishes that do suit him. It Is different with some newspaper readers. They 11 ml an Item occasionally occa-sionally that dies not suit them exactly, and without stopping to think It may please hundreds of other readers, make a grand stand play of their supreme asslnlnlty, and hasten over to "stop their paper." Hut the paper don't stop not much. Hut this particular kicker's copy falls to reach hlui tho next day, and he runs out and borrows his neighbor, neigh-bor, Just, to see If the paper Is still published, you know. FINE IS HEAVIER. All Roais Open to Sheepmen on Payment of Fees. County Commissioner Hill has informed in-formed Tup Independent that tint great family journal was very much iu the wrong when it stated last week that the County had closed Spanish Fork and Provo canyons to the passage pas-sage of sheep herds. The Independent Indepen-dent supposed it had its information correct, but such seems not to have been the case. According to Mr. Hill the State statutes against bedding along and fouling streams are the only laws the sheepmen have to contend with, aside from an ordinance in the code of the supervisor of County roads. This merely authorizes the levying of a fix per herd sufficient to icpair such damage to roads as may he caused caus-ed by the passage of herds. The only reason why so manj herds chose Hobble creek canyon this year was because the theepmen expected the tax levy to bo lighter there than elsewhere. The County, according to Mr. Hill, has no power to close the canyons against the herds on public highways. Springville city formerly had juris diction over Hobble creek canyon, but the segreiiaV.'act robbed her of whatever po,. she might have to interfere. The matter now lies in the hands of the County officials. It Saved His Ley. A. Danforth, of LaGrange, Ga.
