Utah Baroque Ensemble to perform at Cathedral of the Madeleine Saturday The Utah Baroque Ensemble En-semble will perform its second concert in the Cathedral Ca-thedral of the Madeleine on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 8 p.m. The group will sing numbers from their recent concert tour of Italy and Switzerland, where they performed in St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican and various other venues in Rome, Siena, Florence, Cremona and Lucerne, Switzerland. The numbers range from Renaissance and Baroque to contemporary numbers in Latin, German, Ger-man, French and English. Eng-lish. One number was specially commissioned and written for this tour - "O Clap Your Hands!" by Utah composer David Sargent. Several Utah businesses made generous donations to make the tour possible: Stampin Up!, Wing Enterprises, Enter-prises, Bank of American Fork, Tai Pan Trading Company, George S. and Dolores Eccles Foundation, Founda-tion, Ken Garff Automotive Automo-tive Group, Utah Arts' Council, National Endowment Endow-ment for the Arts, Bonneville Bonn-eville Asphalt and Repair, Brian Trapnell Orthodontics Orthodon-tics and University Mall. The ensemble consists of 34 singers from several sev-eral communities in Utah County. The group has performed per-formed primarily in various vari-ous chapels in the area, the LDS Assembly Hall, Zion's Lutheran Church and the First Presbyterian , Church in Salt Lake City, at the Utah State Hospital in Provo, at the Springville Spring-ville Museum of Art, and in the Provo Tabernacle and the DeJong Concert Hall, Museum of Art and Madsen Recital Hall at activity, especially for families fam-ilies with young children. For the older crowd you will want to come on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m. Dr. Carl Sederholm from BYU will be speaking speak-ing about horror movies. In the spring of 1996 the choir was honored to be invited to perform at the Western Division convention conven-tion of the American Choral Cho-ral Directors Association in Pasadena, California. The choir also toured Eastern Germany in 2001, singing in Berlin, Dresden and Meissen, and in Wales and England in 2005, performing per-forming . Evensong in Westminster Abbey and a noon-day concert in St. Paul's Cathedral in London. Lon-don. The choir has been praised by former Mormon Mor-mon Tabernacle Choir director di-rector Craig Jessop and current director Mack Wilberg. The choir is directed by Martha Sargent, who holds a master's degree in choral conducting from BYU. While in graduate school she, directed the BYU Women's Chorus. She currently also directs di-rects the Christmas Chorus, Cho-rus, which performs every December, and is principal princi-pal oboist in the Utah Valley Val-ley Symphony. She received her Bachelor of Music . degree in organ performance perfor-mance from BYU in 1981 and holds a First Prize in Organ Performance from the Royal Flemish Conservatory Con-servatory of Music in Antwerp.
