Show Thursday, August 7, 2008 SPRINGVILLE HERALD 21 Tannarrl MH6tm& Friwin ' , - AJU I 111 ( Alma 'Guy' Chesnut After a valiant battle with cancer, Alma 'Guy' Chesnut passed away July 31, 2008 peacefully at his home in Springville, Utah, surrounded by his family. He was born January 8, 1923 in Teasdale, Utah, to Almira Wilson and Alma Francis Chesnut. Due to the untimely death of his mother, Guy was raised by Valentine and Vera Oy- ler in what is now Capitol Reef National Park. He married his sweetheart, sweet-heart, Flora Chappell, on May 29, 1943. They were sealed in the Manti LDS Temple on February 28, 1946. They are the parents of five daughters. Guy served in the Navy during WWII as a medic in the South Pacific. He was a well respected painting paint-ing contractor for over 30 years. Guy and Flora spent many winters traveling trav-eling to Arizona where they made many friends. They enjoyed traveling, golfing, hunting and especially espe-cially fishing. He was an active member mem-ber of the L.D.S. Church, serving as a much loved Bishop, twice. He served in many other positions and found true joy in serving serv-ing the Lord and others. He is survived by his wife, Flora; daughters: Vicki (Ted) Murray, J V James Alma 'Gu Chesnut Sue Creer, Sheila (Jack) Daybell, Evelyn (Duane) Jensen and Teresa (Chris) Miller; 18 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, two sisters and a son-in-law, Kent Creer. Dad loved every day of his life. There was no such thing as a bad day. Even though his life was filled with much adversity, he never complained. He left us on a beautiful summer sum-mer day and we will miss him always. We love you, Dad. Much gratitude is extended ex-tended to Nancy and Bob and associates at Vista Care. Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 4, in the Springville 2nd Ward in Springville. Interment were in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery. J ut re tic 5487528 pb Barbara lang broker 5 Buyer's Premium May Apply Leonard Edwin James, 90, passed away on Aug. 4, 2008, at Mountain View Hospital in Payson, Utah, having been surrounded by family for his last few days. Leonard was born on Oct. 29, 1917, on the family fam-ily farm in Daniels, Idaho, the son of Edwin and Mary Crowther James. He grew up in Logan where he graduated from Utah State University. He played basketball, bas-ketball, leading his team to the NCAA playoffs and also excelled in track. Leonard married his college sweetheart, Beth Stewart, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on Sept. 3, 1941. Beth passed away in 1999. Leonard lovingly took care of her at home for her last three years after af-ter she suffered a stroke. Leonard and Beth are the parents of three daughters. daugh-ters. , Leonard taught physical education before joining the Army during World War II. During the war, he served as a flight clerk in the South Pacific bringing back wounded soldiers to the states. From California, Leonard and Beth moved back to Utah buying a business busi-ness and making Springville Spring-ville their home. After 35 years, Leonard retired from his business, Provo Office Equipment located on Center Street in Provo. Leonard faithfully served in many leadership positions posi-tions in the LDS Church including in-cluding bishop, high councilman coun-cilman and a counselor in the stake presidency. For over 25 years he served in the Provo Temple, 20 of those years as a sealer. seal-er. Leonard joyfully performed per-formed temple weddings for eight of his grandchildren. grandchil-dren. He and Beth helped fund missions for many of EXPLANATION OF PROPOSED TAX INCREASE NEBO SCHOOL DISTRICT Nebo School District is required by law to publish a "NOTICE OF PROPOSED TAX INCREASE". The Notice of Proposed Tax Increase reports a property tax revenue increase of $3,947,066. Because of new growth the District could have received over 82 of this amount ($3,222,934) simply by adopting the certified -tax rate. The District tax increase is actually only 1 .8 or about $725,000. Nebo School District has chosen to go through Truth-in-Taxation and keep the same tax rate as last year in order to do the following: ' 1- Meet the mandates of new legislation requiring Nebo District to send approximately $250,000 to Charter Schools within Nebo School District. . 2- Provide additional transportation funding to assist in covering the increased foel costs for extra-curricular and activity trips. 3- Provide additional funding to help cover the cost of adding recreation programs at two new high schools. Maintakstate matching funds in the voted leeway, board leeway, and the K-3 reading program. The District is maintaining these levies at rates already approved by voters the School Board, and as outlined by the State. I ! - . In 1980, Leonard was awarded The Silver Beaver Award honoring his many years of service in scouting. scout-ing. Leonard served for eight years on the Springville Spring-ville City Council as the councilman over parks and recreation. From serving in this capacity, he leaves a living legacy to his adopted hometown of Springville. It was under his direction that the first nine holes of the Hobble Creek Golf Course were built. Leonard also helped organize and was the first chairman of Art City Days. Leonard's family has always al-ways been his first joy and concern and he is greatly great-ly loved. He always had time for family. His support sup-port and love have been a foundation and a source of strength for all family members. Leonard is survived by three daughters: Cindy (Allen) (Al-len) Lambert, Ithacar NY; Pat (Wayne) Hall, Springville; Spring-ville; Debbie (Kevin) Stephenson, Ste-phenson, Spanish Fork; 12 grandchildren: Lori (Evan) Vance, Matt (Shannan) Hall, Chad (Kami) Hall, Brett Hall, Jeff (Shannon) Hall, Scott Hall; Creed (Heather) Stephenson, Amanda (Keith) Gurney, Ashley (David) Barnett, Jordan Stephenson, Enoch Lambert, Sara (Dan) Muir and 16 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Faye Crockett Crock-ett of Logan, and Stewart Family brothers and sisters-in-laws. He was preceded pre-ceded in death by his wife, Beth, his parents, and three sisters. The family wishes to con- Beverly Mason Sorensen "Gram" Beverly Mason Sorensen Sorens-en passed away at home July 30, 2008 in the arms of her sweetheart and her two loving daughters and granddaughter. She was born January 13, 1937 to Ronald and Ardell Lewis Mason. . She was active in church with the young girls in her class room and she loved visiting teaching. Beverly graduated from Springville High School. She married her loving husband, Richard Sorensen, Sorens-en, in December of 1953. Beverly and her sweetheart sweet-heart were sealed in the Timpanogos Temple for time and eternity in 2000. They had four beautiful children: Terry Sorensen (Laurie) who passed away after a valiant battle with cancer July 1, 2001; there is a sweet daughter, Lee- vey their heartfelt thanks to Dr. William LeRoy for his many years of professional profes-sional care. Thanks also goes to Sherree Reynolds, home nurse, the staffs at Reid's Park Place, Hearthstone Hearth-stone Manor, Payson Rehab Re-hab and Mountain View Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Aug. 11, at 11 a.m. in the Springville Stake House at 245 S. 600 East. There will be a viewing view-ing on Sunday evening, Aug. 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 E. 200 South, Springville and at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment Inter-ment will be in the Spring-, ville Evergreen Cemetery. Beverly and her sweetheart have 13 beautiful beau-tiful grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Beverly had two sisters: Joan Johnson and Marie Barney. Everyone who knew her in Springville loved her. Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 4, in the Spring Creek 14th Ward in Springville. Interment In-terment was in the Provo City Cemetery. If the proposed budget is approved, this would be an increase of 9.82 above the Nebo School District property tax budgeted revenue for the prior year. . The Nebo School District tax on a $240,000 residence would increase from $1,048.34 to $1,075.80, which is $27.46 per year. The Nebo School District tax on a $240,000 business would increase from $1,906.08 to $1,956.00, which is $49.92 per year. The Nebo School District property tax revenue from new -growth and other sources will increase from $40,208,470 to $44,155,536. All concerned citizens are invited to a public hearing on the tax increase.
