Show SPRINGVILLE HERALD Thursday, July 31, 2008 Comments Soaring vehicle ownership costs Editor Skyrocketing fuel prices have impacted the cost of owning and operating a vehicle, and as the cost of vehicle ownership soars, the need for Right to Repair Re-pair legislation has become more critical in order to protect consumers from the added costs that would be created by a vehicle repair re-pair monopoly. Vehicles technology is becoming be-coming increasingly complex com-plex with virtually every system either monitored or controlled by computers. Without full access to complete com-plete and accurate repair information from the car companies, neighborhood shops will not be able to compete, creating a repair monopoly where the affordable af-fordable and convenient repairs re-pairs currently available to car owners are sacrificed to increase profits for the car companies. The cost to consumers when they can only have their car repaired at the dealership is estimated to Springville Herald 269 E. 400 South Springville, UT 84663 An edition of The Daily Herald a Lee Enterprises, Inc. Without Right to Repair legislation, many motorists may forgo important vehicle ve-hicle repairs due to higher dealer repair costs. This situation sit-uation would be exacerbated exacerbat-ed if there is no dealership in the vicinity, dramatically increasing the cost of fuel and the travel time. To ensure that your neighborhood repair shop has the same access to safety alerts and repair information in-formation as the new car dealer network, Congress introduced the Motor Vehicle Ve-hicle Owners' Right to Repair Re-pair Act (H.R. 2694). They understand that if motorists motor-ists are forced back to the dealer for service and repairs, re-pairs, particularly if there is Our 50 states can save us from federal tyranny Editor: It does not take a rocket scientist to see that our country is rapidly becoming becom-ing a federal police state. Fortunately, our individual states can save us from this tyranny if enough of them, and their citizens, are willing will-ing to act. We need to remember that it was the original 13 states that set up the federal feder-al government and granted it the limited powers stated in the U.S. Constitutioa All federally elected and appointed ap-pointed officials take an oath to obey our Constitution. The Tenth Amendment can help us reclaim our lost liberties if enough of the states act to regain their lost powers. The importance of the CFR is difficult to overstate. over-state. Since its founding in 1921, the CFR has included in its' membership many of America's most influential influ-ential men and women in government, finance, industry, in-dustry, the media and the academy. Right to Repair merely seeks to restore a system sys-tem that has been in place since the invention of the automobile. Yet another CFR co-founder, co-founder, journalist Walter Lippmann, founded the influential political journal, jour-nal, "The New Republic" and as evidenced in his book "Public Opinion," was among the first to promote the idea of major news networks controlled by America's elites to manipulate ma-nipulate public opinion in favor of big government ("manufacturing consent," Lippmann termed it). The goals of CFR's founders were to create cre-ate conditions in finance, in politics and in public opinion under which the American system of limited limit-ed government - a system Lippman, House and others oth-ers were dissatisfied with i -HHflTT I r.i HI ipU 11 . The people of this community tend to be people peo-ple who care about others and who actively seek to enrich en-rich their own lives through service." We see that sense of community in all the cities and towns in our state. How can you get involved more? There are always volunteer oportunities around us waiting for people to step up., Why should you volunteer? Because one person CAN make a great difference! The springville.org website says, "Volunteering can be an incredibly rewarding experience. It is an opportunity to make a difference while simultaneously becoming involved in-volved in your community, meeting new people, learning learn-ing new skills and expanding personal and professional goals. "Studies show that those who volunteer are less like ly to become ill and maintain a positive outlook on life. They live longer, healthier and happier lives. Other benefits ben-efits include the opportunity to broaden life experiences and touch the lives of friends and neighbors in the community,'' Springville city has a Volunteer Coordinator, Sandy Harward.
