Bags for the young mothers Corishae Nunley SJHS STAFF WRITER Here at Springville Jr. High we had four students from the 8th grade place in the top 90 of the Do the Write Thing contest. These students were Amanda Groneman, Emily Rawle, Kyle Coulon, and Camille Davis. Their English teacher, teach-er, Mrs. Rice gave them the assignment and entered en-tered them in the contest. The top Ninety is significant sig-nificant because several thousand enter every year. Amanda Groneman actually actu-ally made the top 12 so she will be dining with the Governor Gov-ernor of Utah, John Huntsman, Hunts-man, in May. The purpose of the Do the Write Thing contest is to let students examine exam-ine their lives through the classroom discussion and in written form. The stu- '. ':.: '- ih I l: ; . ... r " v."--:';.:-. : Jasmine Prestwich and Brittnee Richardson SJHS STAFF WRITERS Since the beginning of 3rd term at SJHS, two girls , Kaitlyn Jenkins and Rhetta Shoemaker, have made 51 book bags for the children and the students at Nebo's Young Mother's High School. They have been sewing in their Service Ser-vice Learning class. They have worked very hard and Mrs. Crandall said, "She is really proud of them." Students in Service Learning classes come up with service projects and then implement them with the help of the class each semester. These girls have made a difference with this act of dedication and service. ":.. l! : '" mi choose to participate being be-ing bussed to Lagoon with classmates and supervising supervis-ing teachers for a fun spring day at the park. This celebration of school's end has been a favorite for students who attend SJHS for many years.- Students who have maintained main-tained eligibility in citizenship citizen-ship and attendance, paid all fines, and completed all detentions are invited to attend this activity. All-day passport passes will be available at Lagoon upon arrival for $24. Students Stu-dents will pay for this pass there. The students are also responsible for providing pro-viding their own lunches while at Lagoon. A non-refundable bus fare of $12 is due Friday, May 23rd. Students must also bring signed permission permis-sion slips to ride the buses. They will be loading the buses in front of the school bright and early at 7:30 a.m. and departing promptly at 8. The return, buses from Lagoon will load promptly at 3 p.m. and depart at 3:30. Students Stu-dents are responsible for keeping track of time and returning to the bus on their own. Students should dress in casual clothes as long as they are modest and comply with school dress codes. This policy will be enforced as the buses are loaded. Permission slips with further rules and instructions will be sent home with students very soon. Watch for these to come home. This fun activity is a great way to say farewell to classmates and teachers teach-ers before the big summer break. ;t-' I : lyfr,M, , rr,,, , V,.,,.- Lancpl Matthew Davidson, a 2004 high honors graduate of Springville High School and son of Warren and Cynthia Davidson formerly of Mapleton, returned home Wednesday after serving a tour of duty in Fallujah, Iraq. He is married to Shantae Puckett. Grandparents are George and Elaine Puckett of Springville and Joanne and Robert Prudencio of Mapleton. It's Not About the House.;.
