Show Thursday, May 1,2008 SPRING VILLE HERALD 9 A First-graders from Mrs. Antonino's and Miss Gardner's classes at Brookside School had a great time learning about colors and the color wheel. Using graham crackers to paint on and frosting in the primary colors as the paint, the boys and girls "painted" the crackers. First they "painted" with the primary colors. Next, they had the fun time of mixing the frosting to make the secondary colors. The best part of all was eating the crackers at the end! Learn the signs of stroke You don't need to be a medical professional to identify the signs of a stroke. In observance of National Stroke Awareness Aware-ness Month this May, the Utah Department of Health (UDOH) wants all Utahns to know some key things about stroke risk factors, prevention. By knowing the signs and symptoms of stroke and calling 9-1-1 right away, patients can get to a hospital faster. Although stroke is the No. 3 killer in Utah and the nation, Utah's hospitalization rate for stroke is lower than the national rate, according to UDOH Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Program Pro-gram (HDSPP) data. While .that may sound good, it actually ac-tually means that Utahns . who suffer strokes are not making it to the hospital in ' time for life-saving treatment. treat-ment. Qoll LOOk 'The Cost Debbie Balzotti Dean Hughes came to Springville last week and during his presentation he mentioned the latest book he had written. I was intrigued in-trigued by the subject and purchased it to read this week. Everyone around me is getting tired of hearing hear-ing my enthusiastic endorsement! en-dorsement! Hopefully writ-, ing this review will allow them all a little relief. Hughes is best known for his historical fiction which includes the series "Children of the Promise" and "Hearts of the Children". Chil-dren". In this motivational book he discusses the conflict con-flict between our cultural values and our religious values. "When I stand before be-fore the Lord to answer for my life," he writes, "I'm certain that He is going to ask me a very different set of questions from the ones the world asks me." Some of the examples Hughes shares include the bizarre, abusive behavior of adult fathers at little league games, our aggressive aggres-sive driving even following follow-ing church meetings and our impatience with anyone any-one who slows us down in a check out line. We need to be more aware - and change our thinking and behavior. Who is teaching us that life is a contest? Which voices are we listening to as we go about our daily lives? We must be more kind. It is important to help those in need. Maybe these are some of the better ideas that will bring us daily peace and happiness.
