One of the major topics was the 2008 Art City Days. Of concern was where to put the carnival and the council feelings were to keep it down town and probably go back to the old way of putting the carnival on Center Street with a west bound corridor corri-dor to get into the Lowe Auto Garage and Snelson Photo Lab. There was also some discussion that the carnival carni-val could be limited in the number of rides etc. because be-cause of the limited space, but the final decision will be made next spring as it becomes evident how far A. u HARVEST SAVINGS - SiLfE HI I I1J1AAIVIII ALL CARS MARKED & PRICED TO SELL! The council is also looking look-ing for ideas about how to increase the number of booths on the park. They discussed the idea of a volunteer coordinator to manage volunteerism in the city. This would include in-clude scout eagle projects, the library, building and grounds, recreation department, de-partment, all of the various volunteer organizations and any other departments in the city which could use volunteer help in any way. Troy Fitzgerald, city administrator, ad-ministrator, indicated that he would look into the matter, mat-ter, determine the budget impact and find a place where this person could have an office. The new Canyon Road Well, which is now on line, will be a good help next summer the council noted and could have been used this summer. "Solid waste is getting to be a big problem," Councilman Council-man Phil Bird stated, "because "be-cause the present facility needs to be enlarged." However, the city is not willing to grant the solid waste district a permit to enlarge because the city wants it moved to a location loca-tion farther west. There is interest in the ground east of the solid waste facility for commercial use. At this point the solid waste district has ground west of the present facility, but the county has refused to grant them a building permit for an enlarged facility. fa-cility. Fitzgerald reported that the financial position of the city is very good. All of the new projects the city is engaged in are coming along fine and are meeting schedules. Also the projected im- pact fees are coming in and it looks good for the com- ing year, although building permits are down some. Sales tax receipts for the first quarter in the new fiscal fis-cal year are up about 5.9, above what the city projected pro-jected them to be, and tax revenue looks like it will be good for the coming year. Too bad that all the people peo-ple who know how to run the country are busy driving driv-ing taxicabs and cutting hair. - George Burns Meet the candidates The Springville Youth City Council will host a community "Meet the Candidates" night on Thursday, Thurs-day, Oct. 18, 7 p.m. at the Springville Junior High School.
