Show 8 SPRINGVILLE HERALD Thursday, October 11, 2007 Been There, Done Looking through your drawers Liz Elder This weekend my daughter moved from her tiny house in the Salt Lake Avenues into a bigger house. And I was amazed at all the stuff she has. Not that she even has lots of stuff. I mean, before be-fore they moved, she had gone thorough her house and thrown out tons of things - all those things you've collected that you know, deep in your dark little heart, will never be of any use but you just haven't got the guts to throw away. A particular example of this type of item in our house is parts of things, things you can just kinda, sorta barely remember owning, somewhere. And there are drawers for the things you will never use, like a fondue set; unless you throw it away, and then you'll need it. I took a moment as we dragged in things to decide whether or not I was jealous of this house and its abundant storage space. I have a little history his-tory of house jealousy, saved only by my distaste for moving. I can't even drive up Hobble Creek Canyon anymore because I just love those big houses up there with their beautiful lawns and swing sets. I hope everyone up there is just delirious with happiness, hap-piness, because I wish I lived there. Except, of course, all my drawers of memories are here and they can't be moved. A few years ago I decided de-cided to divest myself of many of our trashy worldly goods, to clean all our stupid stuff. But after about three trips in our Suburban, I got the "grabbles." "grab-bles." I realized how important all of our stuff was. Like old Halloween clown costumes cos-tumes and sparkly Merry Christmas signs on felt I made in some crazy crafty moment. You think those are going in a dumpster? Well, you've got another think coming, buster. I'm hoping that before I die, I will have a burst of energy, like the burst of energy you have before be-fore your kids are born. You know that burst, where you suddenly heave that huge load of a body off the couch and make casseroles and scrub the bathroom and do all the laundry and wash your hair? I picture myself at 85, bent over, a little forgetful, forget-ful, grumpy, but rising with a burst of energy about three days before I die, and calling a moving company to take everything every-thing to the DI so the kids don't have to do it, and worse, so they won't complain com-plain about it. In fact, I've got a little savings going on for it. Going through my mom's stuff was mainly reliving the fifties, reading read-ing her collection of Emily Post books, one of which advises you that if you're too fat, you shouldn't go swimming in public because be-cause it will be rude! Boy1, I'm glad I didn't get that memo sooner. In fact, even now, I find things in my drawers that I just couldn't throw away then and think, "What on earth did I keep this for?" And then I get all teary-eyed teary-eyed and put it back in the drawer where it belongs. mmt I mm uoor Call to Hrt you own pnoiwltnd mortgag plan. -" 74S-33I2 Provo 377-3647 Sucuraal Latin (Un ) 655-0777 Sprtngvlll 49I-W93 Spanish Forte 798-1423 Payson 463-989S Eureka 433-433-2008 Nctphl 43S-023-2322 COMING 500N..AANTAQMINI A.
