Wh at are SEOP's? 'L Amanda Groneman SJHS STAFF WRITER SEOP stands for Student Educational Occupational Plan. At Springville Jr. all students will be involved in some way with SEOP's, although al-though they are mainly for ninth graders. The seventh and eighth graders will talk about some SEOP information in class. The ninth graders grad-ers on the other hand should be scheduled with the counselors. Each ninth grader will have an appointment to meet with the counselors and their parents. SEOP's are held in the counseling office. When they meet they will discuss their future in school and after they graduate. It will help them plan on what classes to take in high school. They will be able to map out their next few years in school. Bree Hathaway SJHS STAFF WRITER Red Ribbon Week is a week to tell and show kids not to do drugs. It will begin be-gin on October 15th. Every day of the week has a different dif-ferent theme and a saying to it. Monday crazy day -"you'd have to be crazy to do drugs." Tuesday is character day - "show your character don't do drugs." Wednesday is sports day - "be a sport, don't do drugs." Thursday is retro day - "was not cool back then, not cool now." Friday is red daysprit day - "Resist every drug." They will be doing karaoke during lunch for one of the days, and for Friday they will have an air balloon come and they will take a picture of everyone in red from up in the sky. You can have fun and all but you still need to stay with school rules. Drills, Ms, drills -we are prepared Hunters need a new HIP number Jessie Kolesar SJHS STAFF WRITER Here in Springville Jr. High we are prepared for the worst. We do different kinds of drills every year but our main concern is fires. We live in such a dry climate so fires are not hard to start. We have five fire drills a year. Our drills for fires are basic, ba-sic, everyone evacuates to the back of the school and the teachers take roll, then all the students go back to class. That's not the only concern con-cern though; we do an earthquake earth-quake and a lockdown drill, too. During an Earthquake drill the office announces the drill and all of the students stu-dents get down next to their desks and wait for the teachers teach-ers O.K. to come out. In a lockdown drill the people in the office announces announc-es it and the teachers put a cover over the door window and turn the lights off and all the students and teachers get in a corner of the room away from the door and window and wait for the office of-fice O.K. We want to keep SJHS students quick and ready. It is easier to fight for principles than to live up to them. - Alfred Adler The imaginary friends I had as a kid dropped me because be-cause their friends thought I didn't exist. - Aaron Mach-ado Mach-ado What is a friend? I will tell you; it is someone with whom you dare to be yourself. your-self. - Dr. Frank Crane A blow with a word strikes deeper than a blow with a sword. - Robert Burton If you're going to hunt waterfowl this fall, you need a Migratory Game Bird Harvest Information Program (HIP) number for the 2007 - 2008 season. Your HIP number from last season won't work. "I think our new 365-day licenses may have caused some confusion," says Tom Aldrich, migratory game bird coordinator for the Division Di-vision of Wildlife Resources. Resourc-es. "Even if the license you bought last season will be still valid for part of this season, your HIP number from last season isn't valid. You need to get a new HIP number every season." While some hunters aren't getting a new HIP number every season, others oth-ers hunters are getting too many. Aldrich offers the following reminders: , . The HIP number you obtain for the 2007 - 2008 season is valid from February Febru-ary 1, 2007 until January 31,2008. If your 365-day license expires during the season, sea-son, and you buy a new license, li-cense, simply transfer the HIP registration number from your expired license to your new license., You don't need to get another HIP number for the 2007 -2008 season. Utah's 2007 - 2008 waterfowl wa-terfowl season opens Oct. 6. If you haven't obtained your HIP number yet, it's easy to get one. Just log onto www.uthip.com or call 1 (877) UTAH-744 (1-877-8824744). You'll need your hunting or combination license to register, so make sure you have it with you before you log onto the Web or call. It only takes about 10 minutes to register.
