Flat Tax on hold for now A $35 million mistake by Tax Commission economists forced Governor John Hunts-, man, Jr. to cancel a May special spe-cial session which was planned to pass the "flatter tax" part of nis economic development de-velopment plan. The oversight over-sight failed to account for a credit to income tax filers who earn part of their income in another state. The "flatter" tax was proposed pro-posed by last year's Tax Reform Re-form Task Force which met throughout the summer of 2005. The plan would help attract new businesses to the state which would create high wage jobs. The plan died the last night of the 2006 General Legislative Legisla-tive Session when the House couldn't muster enough votes to send it forward. The governor gover-nor was hoping to work with the house members before the May special session, educating educat-ing them on the economic benefit the plan would have on the state. It looks now like the "flatter" "flat-ter" tax plan will have to wait until the 2007 general session or a fall special session. In the meantime the Taxpayers Association As-sociation will join with business busi-ness leaders, tax experts and the governor to educate legislators legis-lators on the merits of the plan to ensure its passage. 2006 TALENT FESTIVAL Sponsored by J y h .7: Springville Arts Park Come and enjoy a night of incredible entertainment put on by SpringvilleMapleton area students!
