' ; .3- On Sept. 3, 2005, Joshua Reidhead was awarded his Eagle Scout badge, the highest honor in scouting. For his eagle project, involving local scouts and leaders, Joshua organized and collected 725 health and children's kits from the Springville area to be sent to the tsunami victims in Sri Lanka. This was the largest amount of kits collected from any one area in the nation. Fed Ex shipped these supplies free of charge to Sri Lanka where they were distributed to victims of the tsunami by Asim Alavi who is prictured above with Joshua. Brian D. Whatcott, age 15, son of Doug and Michele Whatcott of Springville, was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout on September Septem-ber 11, 2005. He is member of Varsity Team 106 of the Springville First Ward. Cub Scout Leader Pow Wow Training The Tri-County Cub Scout Leader Pow-Wow wii be held on Saturday, Sept. 17, at Mountain View High School, 665 W. Center Street, Orem. This year's Cub Scout Leader Pow Wow begins at 8 am. Cub Scout leaders may register regis-ter (if not pre-regis-tered), pick up their Pow Wow books, and visit the midway displays. He is a senior at the American Leadership Leader-ship Academy in Spanish Fork. Hometown news Navy Seaman Craig B. Weight Navy Seaman Craig B. Weight, son of Bruce E. Weight of Springville, Utah, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training train-ing at Recruit Training Command, Com-mand, Great Lakes, 111. During the eight-week program, pro-gram, Weight completed a variety vari-ety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard ship-board and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness. The capstone event of boot camp is "Battle Stations". This exercise gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed suc-ceed in the fleet. "Battle Stations" is designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes at-tributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical practi-cal application of basic Navy skills and the core values of Honor, Courage and Commitment.
