Let us have faith that right makes might and in that faith, let us, to the end, dare to do our duty as we understand under-stand it. - Abraham Lincoln Making a Difference Read the newspaper, stay up on politics 1 i ? 11 wmmmmmmmmm i&T Si Rex M. Rogers I realize that people will develop different interests inter-ests and that some will enjoy en-joy politics and some will not. But I would like to suggest that Christians have some minimum level of responsibility before God to know what's going on in the world, what it means in terms of the Bible's revelation, and therefore what we ought-to-be doing about it if anything. any-thing. Politics is an all-encompassing term, especially now in the late twentieth century. Virtually every significant topic in life is sooner or later talked about in political terms. At one time, personal sexuality, sex-uality, health care, family life and structure, birth, adoption, death and medical med-ical care were, for example, exam-ple, left to the family or the church to discuss. Not so anymore. All of these topics have been the focus of major national discussions in the past few years. Given the moral drift that I believe is affecting this country, I don't think Christians can afford the luxury anymore of "not being involved" or at least informed about what is taking place in "politics." Politics includes, as I said, a wide variety of topics, so here's a suggestion. If you don't like "politics" "poli-tics" but you think you should be more connected as a Christian, then pick a couple of topics that are your special area of interest inter-est and leave the rest for others. I'm not encouraging encourag-ing single-issue politics as much as I'm trying to get more Christians exercising exercis-ing Christian influence. Read newspapers, news magazines, or other sources that include information infor-mation about your concerns, con-cerns, and then do something. some-thing. Pray, send money, volunteer, write, speak, form action groups, and above all, apply God's biblical bib-lical truth to politics. God can and will use you to make a difference. Rex M.
