Show Page Twelve - The Springville Lady ied IotMs The Lady Red Devils split a pair of games last week. On Thursday, May 1, Timp-view Timp-view came to visit. The Lady Red Devils proved to be quite inhospitable defeating the T-birds 12 to 2. McCaye Tobler turned in an exemplary exempla-ry game at shortstop in the contest. Springville rotated players in often, playing the majority of the JV squad we'll. Laura Penrod pitched three innings of shut out ball, striking out 1 en route to the win. Amanda Cole came in relief and struck out 2 to seal the win. Keri Wilson and Lisa Priest combined for a pick off at first base, in an exciting Lady Red Devil win. On Friday the Lady Red Devils traveled south to Payson in a critical region contest. Springville jumped out to the early lead when McKenna Nielson singled, then advanced on successive Payson errors. Lacey Long drew a walk and advanced in to scoring position. Both scored on a Nesha Simpson sacrifice. Migratory birds Spring has arrived and so have thousands of birds that are visiting Utah's wetlands during their annual spring migration. During May and June, the Division of Wildlife Resources, Resourc-es, Utah Partners in Flight and several other organizations organiza-tions will celebrate the beauty beau-ty of birds and the wonder of wetlands at activities across the state. May is American Wetlands Month, and May 10 marks the Tenth Annual International Migratory Bird Day. Naturalist-led bird and wetland walks, information and activities for the entire family will be offered at events across Utah. " anti-tobacco campaign, the Utah Department of Health (UDOH) has introduced intro-duced the second phase of the distinctive campaign-featuring campaign-featuring more former smokers smok-ers and their success stories. The first phase of the "I Did It!" anti-tobacco campaign, cam-paign, launched in October, was built around the memorable memo-rable images of "real" Utahns celebrating the fact that they had quit smoking. The TV and radio commercials, commer-cials, outdoor billboards and related print and collateral pieces featured bright, vibrant vi-brant colors and-in the case of TV and radio- fun original music. In addition to Utah adults and their success stories, the "I Did It!" campaign promoted promot-ed the Utah Tobacco Quit Line at 1-888-567-TRUTH. It also encouraged people who have quit smoking to share their own success stories on the "I Did It!" website, www.ididit.tv. Since the launch of the campaign, calls to the Utah Tobacco Quit Line have averaged approximately 300 every week. In a survey conducted with smokers, 60 percent said that they had cut down on their tobacco use during the campaign--an impressive 40 percent said they had made an attempt to quit. Most also say they quit so they can breathe easier, have more energy and, of course, live longer. Alison, Mclnturff. Matthew Bailey, Wesley Johnson and Corey Costomiris will be new additions to the team. Wesley Johnson hails from Springville and attended Springville High School. John was the Utah high school state runner-up in the 500 free and holds Sprina-ville Sprina-ville HS records in 100 back, 200 free relay and 200 medley med-ley relay. He will swim the free and back for the Utes.
