Show Page Six - The Springville Herald mn earn ff by Norley Hall In this series of articles we have been following the common sense advice offered by John Joseph Walker M.D. In previous discussions he covered such subjects as attitude, goals, diet and exercise. Recognizing human weaknesses where appetite cravings crav-ings are concerned, he now offers advice on some weight reduction and hunger control products. These products are available in most herbal and vitamin outlets. They are also available online at www.vitacost.com. The first recommendation is a green tea extract. This has been proven to be an important antioxidant antiox-idant that can help increase your metabolic energy expenditure. Dr. Walker says, "combine this with exercise, and you can really get your caloric burn going. " Another less known product has the unwieldy name, hydroxytryp-tophan. hydroxytryp-tophan. If you can find it, and can pronounce the name, it has been shown to help curb appetite, especially for carbohydrates. It helps you feel full, decreasing your caloric intake. If cravings and willpower are a problem for you (as they are for most of us) this supplement can be a great help. Another option for you is Hydroxycitric acid, an extract of garcinia cambogia. This will also help curb appetite and may impair im-pair the conversion of glucose to fat. Chromium is stated to be an important adjunct in weight loss, as it stabilizes blood sugar levels and helps promote lean muscle mass. Also, fiber, such' as psyllium psylli-um (brand name metamucil) or glucomannan, will help fill you up and eat less, and maintain good bowel function. While these products sound like a hypochondriac's nightmare, Dr. Walker tells us, "it is vitally important that you get the necessary neces-sary vitamins and minerals to promote good health. You need to take a high quality, complete vitaminmineralantioxidant product prod-uct (or products). This will help youi1 " body maintain , optimal health in both the weight reduction reduc-tion and management phase of your plan. " As a wrap of this weight reduction plan, assume you have made the commitment to take one or two years for the weight reduction re-duction phase of your program and then to move into weight maintenance. How are you going to keep on track? You don't need to live a monastic life of sacrifice and never eat dessert again. If you can skip the dessert and eat an apple. But this doesn't mean your dessert eating is at an end. A physical law called the "law of diminishing fractions" will come to your . rescue. This law (or guideline) states that in order to quickly achieve your goals, you need to stick to your plan 67 of the time. If you want to go a little slower on the weight reduction, reduc-tion, 57 will still work, and for maintenance once you have achieved your weight loss, 47 of the time will suffice. If you find you are putting weight back on drop back to the next level. The simple truth is that there is no way that you will reduce your weight in a permanent fashion unless you commit to the long-term management of your weight. Good luck in achieving this. 2 GIANT TACK & SADDLE AUCTIONS AIIMKlN VIAMS 7 PM IWs Open ul SIX I'M ka(:hnk;ht Public Notice!!! Springville's players were anxious anx-ious to make amends for a previous previ-ous lackluster performance and loss against Clearfield. Sadty, things did not go Springville's way. Clearfield, to their credit, stepped on the ice and set the tone and pace of the entire game. Springville, at times, seemed to watch in disbelief as they allowed Clearfield to skate and shoot, seemingly at will. Springville Spring-ville lost 4-1. "v There were some bright spots in the loss to Clearfield. Springville's Spring-ville's goalie Josh Wheeler can be counted on to make some astonishing saves and this night proved to be no exception. Josh stopped 28 of 32 shots and at times looked like the NHL's Dominic Hasek as he caught, blocked and dove for pucks. Another bright spot was Lance Stonehocker who played defense for the first time in his career and proved to be such a natural at the position that Springville's' Spr-ingville's' coaches have asked Lance to play defense for the remainder of the season! Lance was chosen as the coach's Player of the Game for his ability to play smart, tough hockey every time he is on the ice. In another rematch, the Red Devil Hockey Team faced off against the Jordan Leopards at the Peaks Ice Arena in Provo as another record crowd looked on to support their teams. In a previously previ-ously hard-fought game against Jordan, the Red Devils lost 9-4, but that was history; a new chapter chap-ter was about to be written regarding re-garding Red Devil ice hockey. Springville stepped out on the ice with fire in their eyes, against what many team members consider consid-er their nemesis. Springville controlled the puck and played the most crushing hockey game their coaches, fans and Jordan have seen to date! Jordan was whistled whis-tled for 11 penalties during the .game, six of which were called in the third period alone. Jordan , went from trying to "finesse a . win" to playing relentless, physical physi-cal hockey. Jordan scored all three of their goals in the third period and held on until the final buzzer to skate away with a 3-2 win. Springville's goal scorers were Adam Bernier, assisted by Danny Lee, and Danny Lee f scoring unassisted. ' ' Springville's coaches did not name a Player of the Game because be-cause no single player stood out. The coaches opined that the entire team came out and played their hearts out for the team, for themselves and for one another.
