Show Page Eight - The Springville Herald SPORTS MMWMMWWWMMM MM fted Devil Wrestlers The Springville High School Wrestling Team came away from the loss to the Spanish Fork Dons with some renewed energy and excitement as they are winding down the season and preparing for the region and stale tournaments. tourna-ments. The final score of the duel match was 46-25. That score looks like the team lost most of it's matches. If you take away the 24 points that they had to give to the Dons because of forfeits, they won in hcad-to-head competition. It will be hard for them to win any duel meets because of SI1S not having a full squad. They had some tremendously close matches and are looking forward to seeing those grapplers again in the region tourney. This week SHS travels to Timpview to lake on the Thund- Jr. High Wrestlers The honor of Wrestler of the Week at the Springville Jr. High belongs to twin brothers, Paul and Terry Strasburg. Paul and Terry are sons of Michelle Strasburg Stras-burg and James Nathan Taylor. They are sixth grade students attending Springville Middle School. Paul and Terry have participated partici-pated in the sport of wrestling for several years. They have had several wins this year, most recently bringing home 3rd and 4th place medals from the Juab Tournament last Saturday. The twins have been the most prompt and constant attenders of wrestling wres-tling matches and practices; most of the time they arrive for practice prac-tice before the coaches do. They have come to every match. Paul even came when he was sick to watch and cheer for his brother. Terry enjoys basketball and baseball. His mother says Terry enjoys cooking and is learning new recipes. Paul likes basketball, baseball and football. He enjoys playing video games with friends. Both Strasburg boys work hard at school, keeping an A average. Their favorite subject at school is math. They both like their math teacher Mr. Wright although they have him at different differ-ent times of the day. Paul and Terry are team players and are an asset to the wrestling program. Devil update by Caleb Perkins The Springville Lady Red Devils played the Payson Lions on Tue., Jan. 16, and Spanish Fork on Thur., Jan. 18. Kaylee Collinsworth led Springville with 25 points against Payson. Springville Spring-ville had 29 points in the first period, and extended their lead throughout the game. In the game against Spanish Fork, Springville had to win to make it to the state tournament. The game was pretty much tied throughout, but in the last minute Springville's Meghan Christensen hit a big 3-pointer to put Springville Spring-ville up by 2. Jeanie Harmon hit two big free throws to extend their lead by 4. Spanish Fork pushed the ball up the floor and sank a 3 pointer and the buzzer sounded. Springville won by 1 point over the Lady Dons, final score was Springville 44 Spanish Fork 43. In Men's action, the American Fork Cavemen played Springville at home on January 12. Sadly, the Devils lost the game but it was a hard fought battle. The Red Devils also played the Spanish Fork Dons on Fri. Springville was only down by 2 points at halftime. Nick Ozuna led Springville in scoring with 13 points and also with 5 rebounds. Bret Groneman led with 3 assists and 2 steals. Spanish Fork won the game, but only by 4 points 57-53. - In my opinion this game was the hardest fought battle I have ever seen between two teams since Springville beat 1 ranked Skyview two years ago. When fate is adverse, a wise man can always strive for happiness happi-ness and sail against the wind to attain it. -Rousseau - January 24, 2001 erbirds in another region duel meet. This team has improved from last year. They have a new coach from B.Y.U. and he has made some great changes in the program. The Devils will be working hard as they get ready for this one. They will then travel to Kamas for the Hi-Country Classic Tournament on Saturday. They anticipate that being a tough tournament and a good one to get them ready for the region tournament tourna-ment in three weeks. The Devils appreciate the support that was there for them at last week's duel meet. It was exciting to feel the support from the hometown crowd. The wrestlers wres-tlers also want to thank the cheerleaders cheer-leaders for their support and the treats! n atm Paul Strasburg Terry Strasburg Springville Spirits invite new members The Springville Spirits 12 and under accelerated softball team is looking for girls who love to play softball, who are competitive and committed to increasing their softball skills. Four lake trout limit An error on page 13 of the 2001 Utah Fishing Proclamation has left anglers believing they may only keep three lake trout at Flaming Gorge Reservoir. The lake trout limit at the reservoir is actually four fish and anglers who are fortunate enough to catch that many are asked to keep them. Last year the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources and the Wyoming Wyo-ming Game and Fish Department jointly increased the lake trout portion of the troutsalmon limit from three to four fish, with only one fish over 28 inches allowed.
