" ".vV X iT r $r &3- iff A? 7 Mildred and Lawrence Simmons Sixty-five years Lawrence and Mildred Simmons celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary recently. They were married July I, 1935 in Spanish Fork. Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They have had a happy life together. They hive lived in Springville, Provo, Salt Lake City. Arizona, Lake Mead and more recently in Spanish Fork. They have one son, Jim (Nancy) and four daughters: Jeneel (Dick) Johnson, Centervillc; Carolyn (David) Nielsen, Springville; Dalene (Richard) Duke, West Jordan; and Mary Ann (Doug) Miner, Bountiful. In June, a Dutch Oven dinner was held in Springville Canyon in their honor. Over 60 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and their children were in attendance. A family party is held each year at this time. In the beginning Mildred held the party to celebrate Lawrence's birthday which is always near Father's Day. Over the years the party evolved into one honoring the two of them. Their dedication and love to each other is an inspiration to each of their children and grandchildren. Kent Rich's art at museum Kent Rich, Utah artist in pastel, oil and charcoal mediums will hold a small one-man show at the Springville Museum of Art during the month of July. This show, which will open on July 5. includes sixteen charcoal drawings draw-ings taken from the Tclluride. International Jazz Festival. Rich's drawings record the ;ound of Jazz-its distortions, juxtaposition of chords and tones, its spontaneity and forged interplay inter-play of instruments. The drawings draw-ings are small poems of sound. Musicians depicted include Stanley Stan-ley Turrentine, Terence Blanch-ard, Blanch-ard, Roy Hargrove, Nick Brign-ola Brign-ola Quartet and Regina Brazilia ( Regina Carter Quintet). Rich was the official artist for the Telluride festival for 1998 and 1999. He produced two posters for the international event and two solo shows of pastels. His work was featured in solo shows both years as the first event of the festival. Kent lives in Salt Lake City. His wife, Judy, is a member of the Utah Symphony. Kent takes all his work from life. He is an expressionistic artist whose work has been shown in the Salt Lake Art Center, Utah Museum of Fine Art, Springville Museum of Art, Key Innovations in Colorado and Ellinoff and Apropos Galleries Galler-ies in Colorado. Nebo Children's Choir is holding placement auditions for the 2000-01 season. The season will begin with a summer session, ses-sion, which will begin on July 17 and will go until August 17, All new Concert Choir members for the fall will need to attend this session, if at all possible. The summer session focuses on teaching teach-ing the choir members to sing correctly and expressively, which are the basic skills necessary for beginning in the fall. The summer sum-mer session meets every Mon, and Thur. from 2-3 p.m. in Mapleton at the home of the director. Mrs. Leslie Walker, director of the Concert Choir, is looking for young people who have a keen interest in learning to sing and perform with a group. Auditions Audi-tions will be held in her home by appointment. Singers should cone prepared with a simple, short song no longer than 16 bars. Mrs. Walker will also work with the young person to decide which choir they should be placed in. Every auditioner will be placed in a choir. The Mt. Nebo Children's Choir organization has three choirs. The most advanced choir is the Concert Choir. This choir is for young people ages 9-16. Teenagers in 7th. 8th and 9th grades are particularly sought after. The typical children's choir in the United States consists mainly of young people in this older age group. Children ages 9-12 9-12 give the group a wonderful bell-like tone quality that is impossible im-possible to duplicate by the other children. Children in this age group are also sought after for the Concert Choir. The Concert Choir will participate partic-ipate in an International Children's Child-ren's Choir Festival at BYU next Spring, and will begin fundrais-ing fundrais-ing for a tour to New York City in the spring of 2002. The Concert Con-cert Choir will have a summer session beginning July 17 for all new choir members. In this session, ses-sion, the new members will learn singing techniques which will catch them up with the returning members of the choir. The Glee Club, formerly known as the Chamber Choir, is a group for children ages 6-11. This group will begin in September, Septem-ber, and will spend the entire year learning how to sing expressively, expres-sively, with good diction and support, and will also learn beginning be-ginning sightreading skills such as solfege and rhythm using song games. The Glee Club is a fun way to learn musical skills and is a training club for the Concert Choir. The Songbirds, for children ages 3-5, is a musical skills training class geared for the littlest singers. Songbirds meet once a week, starting in September, Septem-ber, and is patterned after the Glee Club. Singers ages 12-16 "will automatically be accepted into the Concert Choir. All singers sing-ers who are accepted into the Concert Choir will need to attend the Summer Session starting July 17. Sydnee Rose Alleman celebrated celebrat-ed her first birthday Friday, June 30, 2000. She is the daug-jhter daug-jhter of Ryan and Andrea (Graves Alleman and the sister of Garrett and Kaden Alleman.
