They offer trips every year as a fundraising activity. The group shown here are in Santa Fe in 1995 when the first southwest tour was made. They are standing in front of a cathedral in Santa Fe. All citizens, male or female and couples, are invited to come along on this tour October 20-24. Tour art and visit Santa Fe Citizens, male or female and couples, are invited to go along on the Santa Fe Soiree, Southwest South-west Art and Anasazi Tour, sponsored by the Hafen-Dallin Volunteer Guild of the Springville Spring-ville Museum of Art. The tour will take place October Octo-ber 20-24 and will cost $449 per person, with a deposit of Si 00 per person due August 20 and final payment due September 20. The tour includes visits to five art museums in Santa Fe, muse- Joseph Beals wins award Joseph Beals of Springville, who is a student at Utah Valley State College, was awarded the Post-Secondary Silver medal in Collision Repair Technology at the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (VICA) 35th annual Leadership Conference and Skill-sUSA Skill-sUSA Championships. The competition com-petition was held at H. Roe Battle Hall on July 1 . The annual VICA Conference is the largest and most diverse showcase of drill training in the nation. Over 4,000 students from the 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands competed in hands-on skills and leadership competitions. In order to qualify 'for the national competition, the students competed in local and state contests. The state gold medal winners advanced to the national SkillsUSA Championships. Champion-ships. Floors 'W Things 197 South Main, Springville 489-8819 One man The Springville Museum of Art is pleased to announce an exhibition of works by Floyd V. Cornaby of Highland, Utah. "An Approach to Modern Art" will be on display at the museum throughout throug-hout the month of July. Museum hours are: Tuesday-Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday 3 p.m to 6 p.m. The museum is closed on Mondays and holidays. For more information please call (801) 489-2727. Professor Floyd V. Cornaby, one of the oldest producing artists in Utah, was born in Spanish Fork, on July 4, 1910. After grammar school in Benjamin, and high school in Spanish Fork-where Fork-where he was senior class president-he attended Brigham Young University from which he received re-ceived a B.S. Degree in art. In 1938, Cornaby received his Master's Degree in art from Columbia University in New York City. After teaching art in a New Jersey school, he joined the art faculty at Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, New York. , During most of his four years in the Army Air Corps during World War II, he was implementing implement-ing programs for hospitalized soldiers. At the end of his service, ser-vice, Captain Cornaby was called to Washington D.C. to assist in creating a National Medical Veteran's Rehabilitation program. His art became an important tool in rehabilitation therapy for convalescing soldiers. During that time, he was president of Federated Artists of Utah and was also appointed by Governor Lee, as Chairman of the Utah State Institute of Fine Arts from 1949 to 1952. In 1954, Professor Cornaby went on a year's sabbatical sabbat-ical leave to further study at Mexico City College. During that year he had one-man show of paintings at Pemex Oil Gallery in Mexico City. In 1955, Professor Cornaby .organized a craft village in Sprin-gdale, Sprin-gdale, Utah and appeared in Who's Who in the West in 1956. A second sabbatical, in 1971, took him on a painting tour through most of the countries of Europe and North Africa. During that time, his residence was in Huntington Beach, California where he organized the art departments de-partments for three different high schools, and taught night school at Orange Coast College. In 1964, he received the Teacher of the Year Award. v While enjoying some 44 years of teaching, Cornaby also lectured lec-tured and exhibited in Utah, Idaho, Arizona, Nevada and California. In 1976, Professor Cornaby retired and, with his wife, settled in Fresno County, California where he continued to exhibit his art work, and won nine awards in one year at the Fresno County Fair. In 1995, Cornaby returned to Utah and now resides in High- college students dents to all five partner colleges and allows them to take electronically-delivered courses from any of the colleges. At present, Professor Cornaby Corn-aby has been giving lectures on the history of modern art. He has appeared before the Intermoun-tain Intermoun-tain Society of Artists, the Utah Valley Art Guild, and, most recently, he presented his program pro-gram to a Relief Society Home Making meeting. For the month of July, the paintings used in these lectures will be on display in the Works on Paper Gallery at the Spring-' ville Museum of Art. This series illustrates Naturalism, Impressionism, Impres-sionism, Pointillism, Expressionism, Expression-ism, Decorative, Distortion, Surrealism, Cubism, Abstract and Non-Objective styles. During his art career, Cornaby Corn-aby has experimented with a variety of media and subject matter. He is noted for his attention atten-tion to composition and has been complimented by critics for his use of vivid color.
