Association. The study says an , . average family of five earning , ' $44,671 a year would have paid $15,350 in taxes in 1997. "That , equates to working two hours and 43 minutes of a standard eight-, eight-, hour workday simply to pay the , . family's tax burden." said Asso-ciation Asso-ciation Vice President, Greg f Fredde. By using Utah' s average family 1 size of five, an average family income of $44,671, and calculating calculat-ing family consumption patterns based on census information, the combined impact of the property, sales, income and other taxes were determined. Household taxes consist of those taxes that are paid directly v by the family such as income, social security, property and sales taxes. These "household" taxes comprise 25 of the family's yearly income or $1 1 ,284. Of the ' household taxes $3,326 are from - federal income tax, $3,417 from social security and $4,565 from state and local taxes. One of the household taxes paid by the Utah family is the real property tax. Learning patriotism at jr. high by Anna Roberts Last Monday the students at the Jr. High were entertained by a patriotic assembly which stressed the value of our freedoms free-doms and the importance of saying the pledge of allegiance and respecting our flag. The project was a continuation of the Freedom Week that was held earlier this year at Springville High School. Both projects were organized by Anna Roberts and carried out by the Springville High School Student Council. Along with the freedom activities, the tradition of saying the pledge of allegiance together as a school every week was established at both schools. It was presented by Arnold Smith. Kent has served Mapleton City for more than 30 years not only as water operator, opera-tor, but he is over streets, parks and the secondary water system. Within the past three years, they've put in a wastewater collection system. He helped the city survive the flood of '83 and the mudslide of '90. He has also been instrumental in helping the system cope with a chemical spill from a local industry that increased the nitrate level in one of the city's major wells.
