Most of the class championships champi-onships had been decided a week or two ago, but the NASCAR Grand American Modified title has been a see-saw battle all year between James Eaton and Jimmy Wysong and Saturday was no different. Wysong started the night out with a two-point lead, and after setting fast time, increased that lead to four points. But then Eaton came right back to win the heat race and main event, and they were tied at the end of the evening with 1179 points each. Wysong wins the Winston Racing Series championship by having more feature wins during the year. Every year students gather at the school to witness the burning of the S. Students and teachers alike agree that this is the time of year that encourages and inspires school spirit for the Red Devils, which in turn encourages support for the varsity football team in the form of cheering and participation at games that help the team to win. However, there is the question asked of why we burn our S. One sophomore said, "Why don't we burn the symbol of the school we are playing? Others argue that it is strictly tradition to burn the S. Most students agree that is just a fun time to get together as a studentbody. It is not as much what gets burnt, just so something some-thing gets burnt and they have a fun time doing ft. It is an activity that arouses and excites the student's stu-dent's school spirit. The first known English dictionary dic-tionary was compiled in 1604 by Robert Cawdrey.
