JL12 Girls representing the Springvillc Auxiliary of the American Legion, who attended the recent Girls State Convention in Cedar City, gave a report of their activities to members of the Springvillc Kiwanis Club Thursday. They arc pictured above with Bud Schardinc, left, toastmas-ter, toastmas-ter, Charmian Taylor, counselor, and girls, Nicki Chidcstcr, Lori Overly, Debbie Ruff and Kim Bird. Each girl gave an account of their experiences experi-ences at the convention and expressed gratitude for the opportunity which they had received to attend and learn about citizenship and civic responsibility. They were especially impressed by the visit of the many adults at Girls State, particularly that of Governor Bangcrtcr. Irs. Taylor outlined the program the girls follow during their stay. Thursday evening will be Ladies Night and a member of the Utah Travel Cooncil will speak. OBITUARI Merrill Christiansen Merrill Anthony Christiansen, Chris-tiansen, 86, of Springville, died Tuesday, June 20, 1989, at Utah Valley Regional Re-gional Medical Center. He was born June 18, 1903 in Ephraim, to Hans and Inga Christiansen. He married Dolres Heusser in September of 1927 in the Manti LDS Temple. She died in 1982. He married mar-ried Ella Johanna Jensen Jackson in 1983. He was a member of the LDS Church and was a High Priest in the Kolob Stake 12th Ward. He had been an ordinance worker and sealer in the Manti and Provo temples for over 20 years. He had served as a member of the bishopric, ward clerk, high priest group leader, and Elder's Quorum president. presi-dent. He was a musician and enjoyed entertaining. He was a retired civil servant having served many years in the Data Processing Division of the Ogden Defense Depot. He is survived by his wife of Springville; one son and one daughter, Richard Keith Christiansen, LaV-erne, LaV-erne, CA; Mrs. David (Joy) Gledhill, Springville; stepchildren, Mrs. Glen (Carla) Robinson, Brigham City; Mrs. Gerald Ger-ald (Glcnna) Walker, Orem; Leo Jackson, Va- Merrill Christiansen caville, CA; LeRoy Jackson, Springville; 28 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Funeral was Friday. Burial in the Evergreen Cemetery. Paul Evjen Paul Rochlinge Evjen, infant son of Thor and Kathleen Gordon Evjen, died Wednesday, Ju ne 2 1 , 1989, at Utah Valley Regional Re-gional Medical Center in Provo. He was born June 10, 1989, in Provo. He is survived by his parents, Springville; one brother and two sisters, Benjamin Evjen, Anna Evjen, and Emily Evjen, all of Springville; grandparents, grand-parents, Ward and Ger-aldine Ger-aldine Gordon, Springville; Ivar and Aslang Evjen, Salt Lake City. Graveside service was Friday. Douglas Hafen Stewart Douglas Hafen Stewart, age 63, died June 19, 1989 in Santa Rose, California. He was born January 5, 1926 to Rachel I Iafen and Douglas Vance Stewart in Springville. He attended schools in Springville graduating from Springville High School. He married Carolyn Brown in Yeardon, PA. He attended Brigham Young'University and was a Veteran of World War II. I le is survived by his wife of Camp 'Meeker, two daugrrters and one son: Diane Templeton, Lake County, CA; Darlcne Stewart, Ste-wart, Oklahoma and California; Cali-fornia; Craig, Santa Rosa, CA; his mother of Springville, two sisters: Valene S. Roundy, Elkrid'gc; Thora DiLello, Farmington; and three grandsons. Burial was in the Santa Rosa Memorial Gardens. Donald Herbert V Douglas Stewart Donald Lance 1 Icrbert, 18, of Payson died Wednesday, June 21, 1989 in a Salt Lake hospital hospi-tal of injuries received in an industrial accident. He was born May 18, 197 1 at Payson, a son of David Kent and Carla Davis Herbert. Fie enjoyed participating participat-ing in church basketball programs. He is survived by his parents; two brothers and two sisters: Derren Herbert, Her-bert, David Herbert, Marva Herbet, Jennifer Herbert, all of Payson; his grandparents, Zerma Herbert, Springville; George and Marva Davis, Salem.
