The contest included making a poster, decorating a cake, lunch basket auction, auc-tion, obstacle course and goat milking. This little birthday girl is Elise Aaron Hardman, daughter of Jon and Elizabeth Hardman. Many members of her family were on hand Saturday, February 20. 1988 for her first birthday. Her proud grandparents grand-parents are Bill and Mildred Eldridge and Kelly and Jean Hard-man, Hard-man, both of Springville. Great-grandparents Great-grandparents are Delia Smith of Springville and Maurice and Leota Hardman of Mackay, Idaho. Middle school registration Thurs. 5-8 p.m. It is time already to register for school next year. Last week letters of notification were sent home with all Springvillle Middle School students that next year's class registration and student educational plan (S.E.P.) would be held on the afternoon of February 23 from 3 - 6 p.m. and on the evening of February 25 from 5 - 8 p.m. If you were not able to register your child on Tuesday you and your child should come in Thursday evening to finalize next year's registration. This registration registra-tion is only for students presently at the middle school. No specific appointment time will be assigned. 7th grade students will meet in the cafeteria with any available 7th grade teacher, and 6th grade students will meet in the media center with any available 6th grade teacher. A student at Springville High School, Jerad is interested in photography, cooking and swimming. He has won numerous awards in swimming and has been on the SHS swim team since he was a freshman. He has been a state champion swimmer for the past two years and won two gold medals in the 200 and 400 freestyle competition. For his Eagle Project Jerad helped build a hitching rail at the church campground cam-pground in Bennion Creek. Whales depend on their sense of hearing more than their sight. Sound travels faster through water than through air and whales have good hearing. A "casino" was originally a little room - in Latin a casa-near a theater where people could dance and listen to music. The FFA (Future Farmers of America) Assembly was held at the Springville High School on Wednesday, Wed-nesday, February 17. Eight senior girls, who were selected from a previous interview out of 26 girls, competed on the assembly for FFA Sweetheart Royalty for 1988. The girls who competed were: Nichole Phillips, Kristie Bird, Lynnane Montoya, Ann Bird, Stacey Stan-sfield, Stan-sfield, Brandi Sheppard, Kristen Bird and Melissa Black. Winners of the various contests were: Poster Contest, Amberly Ream; Cake Baking Contest, Stacey Stansfield; Obstacle Course, Brandi Sheppard; Goat Milking Contest, Kristen Bird; and Basket Auction, Nichole Phillips, whose Basket Lunch sold for $170. One week before the assembly the studentbody voted with money to see who would kiss a real live pig on the assembly. Those great students and faculty who let the students vote for them were: Mr. Greg Smith, Mrs. Beverly Burdett, Duaine Williams and Stacey Stansfield. The winner or looser was Mrs. Burdett, a Spanish Teacher and great sport at the high school. The FFA Sweetheart Royalty for 1988 are: Second Attendant, Ann Bird, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Bird; First Attendant, Melissa Black, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Black; and FFA Sweetheart, Stacey Stansfield, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Stansfield. Stacey will now compete in the State FFA Sweetheart Contest to be held on March 24th in Logan, Utah at the State FFA Convention. The girl chosen State FFA Sweetheart will then compete in the National FFA Sweetheart Contest to be held in November of 1988 in Kansas City, Missouri. February 25, 1988 Roast beef, whipped potatoes and rice with gravy, buttered mixed vegetables, apple wedge, Carmel nut roll, and one-half pint milk. February 26, 1988 Pita sandwich, hash brown potatoes with catsup, orange and apple wedge, chocolate chip cookie, and one-half pint milk. February 29, 1988 Chicken steak sandwich, French fries with catsup, buttered frozen peas, fruit cup, and one-half pint milk. . They are, front row, from left, Brandi Shep- Applications due March 1 for Art Queen for 1988 Sophomore and junior girls at Springville High School are reminded that applications for 1988 Art Queen are available in the school office or at the Springville Museum of Art. Any young women of that age are invited to apply and participate in the Art Queen contest. A queen and attendants will be selected by a committee appointed by the art board. They will be chosen based on their past achievements, interest in the arts, talent presentation presen-tation and interview. Finalists will be selected based on the applications and those girls and their mothers will be invited to a brunch at the art museum on March 19. Each finalist will demonstrate her talent and participate in an interview after the brunch. Final selection of the royalty will be made and announced at the annual an-nual Art Ball on March 26. Applications are due back at the Springville Art Museum on or before ' March 1. Students take program on food info schools The Future Farmers of America Organization at the Springville High School are celebrating National FFA Week. The FFA officers and members are busy this week taking the program Food for America to all of the elementary schools. This program is being shown to all 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students. The program explains where food is grown, produced and sold in stores so that we have food on our tables. The FFA officers have spent many hours preparing this outstanding program.
