Show Page Four The Springville Herald January 4, 1984 A group of Springville senior citizens one of the snow coaches during the enior citizen meeting Tuesday, Jan. 3, the Springville-Mapleton Springville-Mapleton senior citizen center resumed it's full scheduled program following an abbreviated schedule during the holidays. The blood pressure clinic, health clinic, crafts classes, daily luncheons, lun-cheons, sports and recreational activities and pre-lunch musical programs are again helping seniors look forward to a good year ahead. The Friday topic for discussion will be "welcome 1984." Boyd Nelson will remind senior citizens that 1984 has very special meaning to all Americans. 1984 became a guide-post year partly because of the predictions made by author George Orwell in his best seller novel "1984" published 35 years ago. He predicted that 1984 would be a time of Big Brother, thought control, loss of privacy and other assorted evils. The trends of the past 35 years have special meaning to senior citizens because "we were there." A new year offering continued hope, joy and freedom is a cherished thought to older Americans. Senior citizens might do well to make their New Year's resolutions around the ideals of joy and freedom. Members of the organization will be asked to contribute resolutions appropriate for 1984 and the senior citizen age group. Several examples of resolutions will be given. A number of older people including in-cluding President Reagan and George Burns have given well circulated resolutions. Some of these will be reviewed as senior citizens will add resolutions which more specifically apply to aoetic workshop slated m A two day Diabetic Workshop will be held at Mountain View Hospital on Friday, Jan. 6 from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 7 from 8:30 a.m. -2 p.m. Friday evening will be a general session on Type I and Type II diabetes with a physician from the community speaking. This 3-day fun trip to experience the "splendor of Yellowstone Park in winter dress" will be the fourth such adventure for Springville seniors in seven years. - The 1984 Yellowstone trip promises to be especially exciting because of the plentiful snow pack and moisture formations on trees and rocks. Also, most wild animals Baptist church slates program On Sunday, January 8, at 7 p.m. the First Baptist Chapel of Payson will present a special program on The Spiritual Awakening in Korea. Much ado is made this time of year of new beginnings, fresh starts, resolutions, but without the experience of the previous year, the new resolve will come to naught. It is what we have learned from our experiences in the past year that will help make this coming com-ing year successful aid prosperous. The future is built upon a foundation of the past. The truths that can guide us through this life are rooted deep in the past, in the beginnings of time, yet they will serve us eternally eter-nally if we do not cast them aside in search of something new. Seniors who have experienced the three previous trips with the Springville group have commented on the great variety of differences each time. One senior said, "one has never seen Yellowstone Park unless he has seen it several times in winter." Travel into the Park is by heated snow coaches as four wheel vehicles are not permitted in the Park in winter time. Lunch on the second day will b at Old Faithful Lodge. The evenings will be spent singing songs, telling jokes and playing games by the huge fireplace in the Stage Coach Inn in West Yellowstone. One of the greatest joys of the winter trip is being snug and warm in the bus, snow coach or motel and watching winter at its best on the outside. As with past trips there will be many opportunities for picture taking of wild animals and colorful pools surrounded in frosty splendor. DIAMONDS Emeralds. Rubles, Sapphlret.
