Legend has it that owls cannot see during daylight hours. Not so, say the January Reader's Digest; owls can see exceptionally well under all light conditions. In fact, they can see with one hundred times less light than humans need, and their auditory power is probably second to none among all living things. Beethoven or the Beatles -if the music's too loud it can hurt your hearing, a new medical study reveals. The study, reported in the January Reader's Digest, observed 139 orchestral musicians who practice and perform a total of 40 hours a week. Fifty-nine of the musicians experienced hearing losses worse than those expected for their age. BLAINE R. With her, she brings a unique approach for teaching the "deaf," used in Denver for over 30 years the Auditory-Verbal approach. This approach, unavailable in any other part of Utah, was introduced to the state with the encouragement of Merrill Osmond, said Morris Stuart, acting president of A Child Shall Speak Clinic, 1799 North State, Orem. According to Ms. Caleffe, children with serious hearing impairments are now able to respond to sound, even though they are classified as deaf. "The Audiroty-Verbal approach," continued Ms. Caleffe, "offers an alternative to lip reading or sign language. Instead of considering the child's deafness, the residual hearing hear-ing is amplified with two powerful hearing aids." "The fact is 95 percent of the children with hearing impairment as we prefer to call them can develop verbal communicative skills."
