Team to send 17 to state The Springville Museum of Art "docent" (the latin word for teacher-lecturer) left Thursday evening May 7 for San Francisco. Their purpose was to visit other museums to exchange 'iow their tours are conducted. Major exhibitions that were viewed were "The Search for Alexander" at the M.H. de Young Memorial Museum in Golden Gate Park! The exhibit included in-cluded a film about the life and conquests of the young emperior who died at the age of 32 after obtaining more land mass area than any other ruler before or since. Also visited were the Asian Art Museum, with their famous Jade collection and the French collection at the Palace of the Legion of Honor. On special exhibit were Japanese prints by the artist Yositoshi. The Springville Museum of Art has been offereing tours of the permanent collection and special exhibits althrough the year. During the month of April 12, our active Docents conducted over 2,000 visitors, including in-cluding both club and school groups, through the Museum. These docents include: Arlene Payne, Norma Haws, Sharon Gomez, Ann Reid, Ledean Bird, Joyce Brereton, Grace and Max Allman, Nola Sullivan, Lois Goodell, Zola Ash a, nd Arlene Rasmussensen. A new docent training program will be at the Metropolitan Museum of Art slide series, guest lectures on different Art topics and Museum tours of Art Galleries as will as some artists studios. The first session will be orientation, a crepe party, which will enable new and current docents to exchange ideas. These volunteer docents donate their time to guide tours once a week for 2 hour intervals upon completion of the training preparation program. Vickie Jones and her students will present "We've Got The Beat" on Saturday, May 15, in the Springville High School Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend. at-tend. The first session of leam-to-swim lessons will start Monday, June 7, at 10 a.m. The summer session runs everyday Monday through Friday for 10 lessons with one make-up lesson, if one is missed during the session. During the afternoon of May 15 there will be a special half-price swim from 1 to 5 p.m. This is during our regular Saturday afternoon swim, and is for swimmers of all ages. Children under 8 years of age must be accompanied by an adult 16 years of age or older. The second session of learn-to-swim starts Monday, June 28. Pre-registration Pre-registration for this session will be Monday and Tuesday, June 21 and 22. This is a courtesy offered to those who have children already enrolled in lessons. New registration for the second session will be Wednesday, June 23. Third session classes will start Monday, July 19. Pre-registration will be Monday and Tuesday, July 12 and 13. Registration for the third session will be Wednesday, Wed-nesday, July 14. The fourth and final session of summer learn-to-swim lessons will begin Monday, August 9. The Springville High School track team qualified 17 athletes for the state track meet to be held at Weber State College on Thursday and Friday, May 13 and 14. Those qualifiers are: Rob Snelson (200 m dash), Brian Brooks (mile), Kelly Smith (shot put), Jack Reeve (discus), Tonua Hamilton (long jump), Beth Hagen (discus), Rhonda Weight (100 m Hurdles), and the boys 400 meter relay team, consisting of Snelson, Young, Shipp, and Kelly Hansen. The girls also qualified the 400 meter relay team consisting of Hamilton, Mitchell, Trina Davis, and Kari Hansen. The medley relay team of Hansen, Davis, Charia Lower and Laurel Bradshaw also qualified for the state meet. The track team participated in the region track meet at Payson last Wednesday, placing fourth in the boy's dvision and third in the girl's division First place winners were Gregg Shipp in the long jump, Wendy Mitchell in the 300-meter low hurdles, and, the boy's medley relay team consisting of Jim Young, Darin Cluff, McKay Jensen and Brian Brooks.
