The Dons put up a hard fight with the Devils; leading throughout most of the game with ten points in their favor. However, in the last three minutes the Devils pulled themselves together and put on a full court press. Under pressure, Spanish turned the ball over several times, giving Springville the advantage, the Devils brought the score up to 43-45 43-45 still in the Dons favor. So with 47 seconds on the clock and Spanish's ball, the Devils really put on the pressure and with Cherie Murdock's in tercepted pass, Springville had the game in the bag,. However with a bad call from the of ficial it was once again in Spanish's hands so again Springville put the pressure on and once scored to tie the game, which led to a three-minute three-minute overtime. In the overtime the Devils slowed down the game and played a fight defense not letting the Dons in without fouling. So with foul shots and other baskets the Devils took a good lead and Racquetball tournament set Springville Red Devil girls basketball team came out on the long end of an overtime over-time against Spanish Fork Dons. Following the elcetion of the new board a meeting took place to discuss the coming fall season. Some items of interest were the shorter season to insure warmer weather, the need for more clinics, and the coming registration this May. For those who want to participate in soccer this season, the registration date and location will be announced in the Springville Herald this April. Aslo, announcements an-nouncements will be made ai your school and on the local radio stations before the summer holidays begin. A Raquetball Tournament Tour-nament has been scheduled for the week of March 8 with all age groups from the sixth grade boys and girls to adult men and women. The tournament will give a T-shirt for each participant and plaques will be given to first place, second place and consolation. In the past, Supreme Rquetball Courts have sponsored some fun tournaments and this will give kids and adults a chance to compete in one of America's fastest growing sports. People who live in the area are encouraged to sign up and participate in this tournament tour-nament according to Springville recreation director, Alan Curtis. The first round will begin on Monday, March 8, and continue through Saturday, March 13, which will be the championship round. The schedule is as follows: 6th and 7th grade boys and girls 3-5 p.m. weekdays: 8th and 9th grade boys and girls 3-5 p.m. weekdays; High School boys and girls 5-6 p.m. weekdays: Adults-men Adults-men and women 9-10 p.m. weekdays: The championship cham-pionship round will be: 1-4 p.m., Saturday, March 13. Cost for this first annual an-nual event will be $8 for sixth through ninth Coys boseboll . There will be a boys baseball meeting"March 2 in the high school from 7-9 p.m. in Room B-2. Supreme Racquetball complex, in conjunction with Foot-Joy Shoes and Millers Trailer Sales, held a tournament Jan. 27 through Jan. 30. It was the biggest racquetball tournament ever held in South Utah County with 127 entrants involved. Each entrant received a tournament shirt, which is standard procedure for all URA Tournaments, and $100 was awarded for first place in women and men's open. One feature of the Springville Boys Baseball is that boys play in comparable age groupings. Most other cities in the county have nine-year-olds playing with 12-year-olds. Nebo aquatics news At the 1982 Annual Bridgerland Swim Meet held at Logan, Utah a number of the Nebo Aquatics Tenia members made an excellent showing. This meet was a large High C. meet with teams from Utah, Idaho and Wyoming in attendance. To be able to swim in this meet the swimmer needed close to a U.S.A. B Time. In the eight and under age group for the girls Lara Huff took second in the 50-yard backstroke and the 50-yard butterfly, she also took fourth in the 50-yard freestyle and sixth in the 100-yard individual in-dividual medley. For the eight and under boys John Penrod took fifth in the 50-yard breaststroke. In the 9-10 age group for girls Molly Cox took fifth in the 50-yard freestyle, and sixth place in the 50-yard 50-yard butterfly. In the 9-10 boys catagory Marc Penrod took first in the 50-yard breaststroke, fourth in the 50-yard freestyle, fifth in 50-yard backstroke and sixth in 100-yard individual in-dividual medley. Ryan Johnston also swam in this age group and did an excellent job. In the 11-12 girls age group Kendalee Harmer took second in the 50-yard butterfly, fifth place in the 50-yard breaststroke, and sixth in the 100-yard individual medley. The girls 11-12 relay team took fourth place in the 200-yard 200-yard freestyle relay. The relay team consist of Marcie Davies, Jennifer Johnston, Sherylyn Billings and Kendalee Harmer. Marcie, Sherylyn, and Jennifer made excellent showings in their individual races. Brian Hutchings swam in the 13-14 girls age group and took second place in the 100-yard butterfly and the. 100-yard freestyle, fourth in the 200-yard individual medley and sixth in the 400-yard individual medley. In the 15-18 age bracket for the girls and boys Mike and Michelle Wynn did a good job representing the team. Over all the team did a great job at the meet. Congratulations! Proverbs XXV 25 At the Slate Class III Gymnastics Meet held recently in Orem, Tauna Sabey won second place in the uneven parallel bars with a score of 8.9. She also placed eighth on the balance beam with a score of 8.85. Her Coach is Rich Trimble at Spanish Fork Gymnastics. Register for women's Softball The Springville Womens softball Association had a meeting on Tuesday, February 9, to discuss plans for the upcoming softball season. Seven teams were represented. A decision was made to get the signups of the ladies who were not on a team who wanted to play, and form a maximum of 10 teams for this years competition. This will gvie most ladies who want to play a chance before the deadline of March 31, 1982. The league is slated for an April 27th start and is scheduled for a July 31 ending. The Devils won with a score of 41-36. sports afield New classes at community pool Racquetball tourney results announced ' ' if I i - ' iL Greg Bartholomew of Dixie High captured the Gold Medal in the IK.i :t-A Division State Wrestling Tournament (his past week when he downed defending State Champion, Kline Bradford, with an overtime win 10-0. Greg also received "Most Outstanding Wrestler Award" of this event. His parents are Linda Wightman and the late Sheldon Bartholomew, formerly of Springville. Grandparents are Klden and Lena Bartholomew Bar-tholomew and Jean Wightman of this City. The first day of March starts a new session of Learn-to-Swim Lessons. Classes will run Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for 10 lessons at 5 p.m. The classes are 45 minutes each. There will be beginner through advanced swimmer classes available. Privates and semi-private classes are available by request. A Mommy and Me class will also begin Monday, March 1. Time for this class is 10 to 10:30 a.m. This class is for the mother and infant to get to know the water together and enjoy themselves. This class runs Monday, Wednesday, Wed-nesday, and Friday for ten lessons. Starting the first Tuesday in March the very popular Aquajazz Class resumes. The time for this program is 8 to 8:45 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Auajazz is aerobics in the water and has proven very beneficial to those who have participated in (he class. There is a special monthly rate for (his class. Now is the time for your children to sign up for the swim team. By starting now they will be able to gel themselves in shape for summer competition. The swim team works out every day, Monday through Friday, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. There is also an early morning workout from 5:45 to 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday, and Friday, an excellent staff at Community Monday, Thursday, We have coaching Springville Pool. The ACES (Art City Expert Swimmers) will continue to run Tuesday and Thursday from 5 to 6 p.m. The ACES Program is a class designed to help those who would like to joint the swim team but still need help with the four basic strokes as well as dives and starts.
