The Springville"A" Bronco Bron-co All-STar team lost to Lehi "A" All-Stars in the finals of District Bronco tournament played Saturday Satur-day July 25 at Roosevelt. Springville had worked their way back through the losers bracket with two wins on July 24 after losing the night before to tournament host and favorite, Roosevelt "A". In the final game, a good Lehi team displayed excellent defense to slip by Springville 7-2. Wes Tallon pitched all the way for the losers in a game which was well played by both teams. Springville managed only five hits off opposing pitcher Yates. They picked pick-ed up one run in the fourth on consecutive singles by Kody Shepherd, Nathan Palmer, and Keith Kinross, and added one more in the sixth on Chad Daybell's single; a stolen base followed by Matt Child's single. Pioneer Day was a banner ban-ner day for Springville as they battled both thunderstorms thunder-storms and Roosevelt "B" and "A" teams to gain entry into the finals. At 2:30 p.m. that afternoon after-noon they defeated Roosevelt "B" team 9-8 in eight innings. Chad Daybell drove in Bowling leagues to begin Fall League sign-up will soon begin at Art City Lanes. All interested men and women bowlers are invited in-vited to sign up. Leagues will include men's leagues. women's leagues, and mixed leagues. No bowling experience is necessary. Mapleton Mustangs win tournament by Frank Nielson Four wins in a row brought" the championship champion-ship to the Mapleton Mustangs, who will now travel to Vernal for the state championship. The championship game seemed to have a repetition of fours. Pitcher Pit-cher Mark Wynn struck out the last four Vernal players as Mapleton won 10-5. Chad Kimber scored four runs in four consecutive con-secutive innings. The Mapleton Club scored four runs in the fourth inning to come from behind and provide the second win over the stubborn Vernal club: Wynn struck out five of the six batters he faced bringing his tournament total to 17 strike outs. Kimber's four runs in the championship game brought his total to eight runs scored, the most of any player. Kimber was followed in scoring by David Kirby with five runs, Mike Larsen with four runs, Greg Flinders with three runs and Ryan Howell, Brian Graves, Mark Christensen with two runs each. Four other All Star players scored one run each during tournament tour-nament play. The Mapleton Club got off to its winning ways beating Highland 7-3. Lead off man, Chad Kimber, hit a homerun, the first time at bat against Highland. Mapleton also won over Crescent, 4-2, and Vernal 9-6, the first time they faced the Vernal club.. Other players who won the All Star recognition participating in the games were Justin Ely, Ben Brooks, Ted Pennington, Penn-ington, Brett Perrero, Darick Jtoylance, Bran Nathan Palmer the winning winn-ing run in the extra inning. inn-ing. Daybell had three for four at the plate and Keith Kinross and Nathan Palmer each had four hits while Kody Shepherd and Darrin Fox picked up two hits each for their afternoon after-noon efforts. Kody Shepherd pitched seven innings before being relieved in the eighth by Keith Kinross. Later on that evening Springville shut out Roosevelt "A" 17-0. The swimming test consists of the following swimming skills: a standing front dive; swimming 500 yards continuously using a front crawl stroke, sidestroke, backstroke, breaststroke, and inverted breatstroke, Also surface dive to a minimum depth of 8 feet, swimming 20 feet underwater and treading water for 1 minute. The objective of the course is to provide the individual with the knowledge and skills designed to save his own life or the life of another in the event of an emergency, and preventive techniques.
