Show V Page Ten - The Springville Herald - October Devils extinct Dinos 30-7 By Craig Conover The Springville Red Devils Football Team finished off their regular season play last Thursday afternoon in a 30-7 victory over the Carbon Dinos. Playing on a rain-soaked rain-soaked mud field and with the rain continuing throughout most of the game, the Devils played one of their finest games of the season. The Devils took their first possession 70 yards and on a 7 yard run up the middle were on the scoreboard with 5.59 left in the first period. The kick for extra point by Sheldon Phillips was good giving the Devils a 7-0 7-0 lead. The Dinos were able to move the ball to midfield but there the Devils defense held as it was able to stop the Dinos from scoring any points against the defense throughout the game. Neither team was able to move the ball very well. Hampered by bad playing conditions the Devils were able to move the ball from the Carbon 25 yard line to their own three yard line where Danny Duncan went up the middle for 6 more. Supported Moderate The extra point was good and the Devils took a commanding lead of 14-0 with 3:58 left in the half. The Dinos again could not move the ball and were forced to punt from deep in their own territory giving the Devils excellent field position on the Carbon 49 yard line with two minutes left in the half. The Devils moved the ball to the three yard line and called their third and final time out with 3 seconds left to play. On the next play Strong went around the end but slipped and fumbled the ball right into Carbon player Darin Judd's hands who ran the remaining 98 yards for a touchdown with no time left in the half. The extra Point conversion was good putting the Dinos back into the game 14-7. The Devils were able to score again on their first possession of the second half moving the ball 77 yards in 8 plays where Jeff Strong hit Chris Holmes going up the middle with a pass good for the remaining 39 yards and the TD. Phillips was able to complete the extra point IpFDUDgD mm (mm ' t : ll(Q)Mo mm nn IV 23. 1!)K) making the score 21-7. Carbon went to a shotgun offense to try and pass their way to victory but were hampered when Stuart Nielson intercepted in-tercepted a pass on the 25 yard line and ran it for a TD. Neither team was able to move the ball after this and Springville received their final two points on a safety with two minutes left in the game and send them to the state tournament tour-nament with a 30-7 victory vic-tory over the Carbon Dinos.
