An accomplished musician, Dr. Burton serves as chairman of elementary music education and instructor of cello and bass at Utah State University. He has performed under such conductors as Leonard Bernstein and Maurice Abravanel. The concert, part of the museum's regular series, will begin at 8 p.m. Sandwich A The Villa Playhouse Theatre in Springville has announced the staging of the Jerome Kearn Musical "Show Boat," which will begin Mar. 6, and run for a limited number of performances. The valley-wide production is under the auspices of the Utah Valley Association for the performing arts. The production is in the hands of Joel A. Osborne, actor-director, who directed such shows as "Babes in Arms," ."The Fantastics," " Damn Yankees," and "Star Spangled Girl." Assisting him is choreographer, Craig Call. Call was responsible for the dancing last season in "Damn Yankees." The third member of the directing team is Kay Woodward chorale The Ralph Woodward Chorale has announced plans to add to its numbers num-bers in the immediate future. According to Dr. Ralph Woodward, director of the group; Nmany former members of the, BYU A Cappella Choir and other university choral organizations as well as other talented singers from the entire valley have made inquiries over the years about joining the group, but its present size has not permitted their membership. Woodward said by careful selection of additional Hoot 'n sponsors The Hoot 'n' Holler square dance club is sponsoring a beginners' square dance class through the community school program. The two and a half hour classes will start at 7 p.m. Jan. 17 at the Orem High School cafeteria, and will be held every Thursday until summer vacation. All the proceeds from the first five weeks will be donated to the March of Dimes. She was musical director and conductor of the love story, "The Fantastics". Marcella Barrett is creating the costumes for the characters of "Show Boat." "Show Boat" is the saga of the "Cotton Blossom," one of the picturesque floating theatres that used to play towns along the Mississippi and Ohio rivers. It is the story of jolly, softhearted captain Andy Hawkes, the "Cotton Blossom's" owner; Parthy Ann, his domineering New England wife; his daughter Magnolia and his troupe of actors, singers and dancers. It is the story of Julie, the leading lady on the show boat and her banish singers, the pleasure of rehearsing and performing per-forming can be made available to many other gifted musicians of the valley. The repertoire planned will be similar to that of the past, which has included in-cluded annual Baroque performances of Handel's "Messiah", major works of the greatest composers of all eras, including Bach, Brahms, Schubert, Verdi, Honegger, Vaughan Williams, Poulenc, Foss, and Hovhaness, to name a few; an annual "Pops" concert; and special evenings devoted to one class the class until reaching club level. Once at this level, they may attend club dances and also go anywhere in the free world and find a group of people to dance with. The calls are always in English. Doren Boyden of the Hoot 'n' Holler club has donated a hand -tooled western belt to be raffled off at this class. Other donations will be welcomed. The caller will be Wayne Turley.
