Show Page Ten The Springville Herald September Utah to gain horned sheep According to Utah Division of Wildlife Resources game managers and a recent new s release from the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission, Utah will be the recipient of an unspecified un-specified number of bighor sheep sometime in the future. The sheep will come from Wyoming's expanding herds. Wyoming officials announced that up to 60 bighorn sheep would be transplanted to Utah and Idaho. The move was recommended by Wyoming's Chief Game Warden, Rex Corsi. Corsi indicated that Wyoming has a surplus of bighorn sheep in the Whiskey Basin area and that game managers there suspected the herd could outgrow the current range carrying capacity. Plans call for the sheep to be relocated in available Wyoming sites first and then used to fill available habitat niches in the two adjoining states. It was also felt that supplying sheep to Utah and Idaho would help increase the overall number of bighorns in the United States. Both Utah and Idaho requested the transfer to reintroduce sheep into either former or new range. Corsi estimated that some sheep might be supplied during the winter of 1977- 78, but no specific dates were established. Transplants would be made during the winter to the states as they became available and surplus to the Wyoming transplanting tran-splanting program. Utah game managers indicate they are anxious to receive the bighorn and. continue building Utah's bighorn sheep population. Mount Nebo will be the first area to receive a release. Call BLAINE R.
