At that time the fire siren will sound to signal participation be every citizen in the community. At this exact moment there will be the simultaneous ringing of bells throughout the entire nation. The Independence Hall Tower Bell in Philadelphia will ring at 2 p.m., EDT, signifying the beginning of the nationwide bell ringing program. In New Orleans, the bells of St. Louis Cathedral, at the conclusion of an ecumenical service, will ring at 1 p.m. CDT as part of the nationwide showing of unity.
