The world's largest commercial airliner, the four-engine Boeing 747 superjet, is powered by this advanced jet engine, the JT9D turbofan built by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft division of United Aircraft Corporation. Developing up to 47,000 pounds of thrust in its latest version, the engine is virtually smoke-free and makes less noise than its largest airline predecessor, even though it is more than twice as powerful. The fan at the front of the engine is eight feet in diameter. Another new, wide-bodied jet transport, the McDonnell Douglas DC-10 Series 20, also will be powered by the JT9D. - BETTER RECALL THIS I IT KEEPS STITCHING RIPER'S RANTS TO -t CROSSBAR : a. - We e never run ou Railroads were responsible for stanpard time zones, until 1883, trains usep almost ico "local times roads set up the four zones and, 35 years later, congress sot around to . Stars vs Pacers in Salt Palace Friday evening "I have to say we're very pleased to be this far ahead of a team like the Indiana Pacers at this point in the season. With the team playing its best ball of the year right now we would like to think we can come on strong down the stretch and have our success carry over into the playoffs." The speaker of those words is Utah Stars' rookie coach LaDell Andersen as he gives a "state of the union" report at the three-quarter three-quarter mark of the 1971-72 American Basketball Association season. The Stars play at the Salt Palace against the Pacers on Friday, Feb. 25. Andersen stated that the chief goal his team is shooting for right now is the regular season championship, an accomplishment ac-complishment that slipped out of the grasp of last year's club. "Of course, the league title is the main target, and the fact no team in ABA history has won back-to-back championships gives us added incentive," says the congenial first-year mentor. The Pacer game on Friday will mark the final appearance of the regular season for Indiana, In-diana, and as is the case with all Utah-Indiana meetings, it should be another "barnburner." The Stars have won the last two games over the Pacers and coach Bob Leonard will have his club higher than the proverbial kite in an attempt to close the gap on the Stars in the race. Tip-off time in the Salt Palace Arena will be 7:30 p.m. timeiu newd. I V |
