A reception will be held in their honor that same evening, 7-9 p.m. in the home of the bride-elect's foster parents, Dr. and Mrs. P. K. Edmunds, 908 East 800 North, Mapleton. Parents of the couple are Truman and Marie Davis of Chinle, Ariz, and James and Barbara Janeway of Garden Grove, Calif. Miss Davis is a 1972 graduate of Springville High School and is employed in Provo. The prospective bridegroom will receive his degree this month in physical education from Brigham Young University. The couple plans to make their home in South Australia. Mrs. Rasmussen, sons move back home Good news is being given out by Mr. and Mrs. Preston Hooper of Mapleton as their daughter, her husband and two sons have moved back to the area following a stay of 2Vi years in Okinawa. The young people, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Rasmussen and sons, Todd and Shannon, have just finished the stay in the Pacific. Gary recently finished his term of duty with the U.S. Army. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Rasmussen of Provo. Mrs. Rasmussen is the former Vicki Hooper. The dance program has received a recent boost in popularity among local senior "swingers" and all persons 50-years 50-years of age of older are invited Mrs. Thorn has 90th birthday on December 3 Monday, December 3, was a special day for Mrs. Nettie S. Thorn, as this was her 90th birthday. birth-day. The day was celebrated quietly with members of the family calling throughout the day as well as close friends and neighbors. She was born in Springville on December 3, 1883 to Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus Sanford of this city. She married AshelC. Thorn, a former mayor of Springville, in February of 1904. He died in 1955. Mrs. Thorn has three sons, Paul of Orem; and Grant and Bryce, both of Springville. She also has 10 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Hal Clyde speaks to Literary Club The Ladies Literary Club met Thursday night in the home of Rea Straw who served a delicious tray dinner to the 15 members present She was assisted in hostess duties by her niece, Michele Sumsion. President Leola Johns was in charge of the meeting. Clara Sumsion read the club collect Birdella Bearnson was in charge of the program and introduced in-troduced the speaker for the evening, Hal Clyde, chairman of the board of the Springville Art Museum. He told of the hanging of the pictures, the scheduling of events, and sculpture. A question and answer period followed. Plans for the club's Christmas party were announced. Scott Carter and Lorraine Judd Wedding plans of Miss Judd, Mr. Carter now being told Dr. and Mrs. Clair Woodbury Judd of 45 West of 45 West 400 South, Springville, announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Lorraine Mary, to Scott Ken Carter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Carter of Salt Lake City. The couple will be married Friday, December 21 in the Springville Art Gallery. A reception will be hosted by Dr. and Mrs. Judd to honor the couple that same evening at the art museum, 8-10 p.m. The bride-elect is an honor graduate of Springville High school and is a four graduate of seminary. She received her bachelor of science degree from Brigham Young University. She nursed for two years at the George Washington Memorial Hospital in Washington, D. C, returning to Utah to obtain her Master of Science degree from the University of Utah. Miss Judd is a former Miss Springville National Guard and Miss Springville Cow Belle. She is employed by Brigham Young University in Salt Lake City. The prospective bridegroom graduated magna cum laude and obtained his Master of Arts degree in mathematics from the University of Utah. He presently is employed by Applied Management Corporation in Salt Lake City. Following their marriage the new Mr. and Mrs. Carter will make their home in Salt Lake City. Springville teacher attends convention Nearly 800 agricultural educators joined over 9,000 vocational educators in Atlanta for their annual convention, December 1-5. The 25th National Vocational Agricultural Teachers' Association (NVATA) convention con-vention ran concurrently with that of the American Vocational Association (AVA). Robert Brock, vocational agricultural teacher in the Springville High School at Springville, Utah was an official delegate for the Utah Vo. Ag. Teachers Association. The five days were exceptionally ex-ceptionally busy for those attending. at-tending. Many NVATA sessions emphasized activities to commemorate com-memorate the Silver Anniversary. An-niversary. The NVATA was organized at Milwaukee, Wisconsin in December, 1948. The NVATA and AVA program included general sessions, departmental, sectional and regional meetings, business meetings, awards, receptions, and luncheons. The theme for the Agriculture Division program was "Agricultural Education in the Total Education System." The NVATA includes over 10,000 vocational educators in agriculture as members. Francis N. Luther Calum vocational agriculture teacher at Kalispel, Montana is the NVATA Vice President for Region 1 which includes the Utah Association. The National Office is located in Lincoln, Nebraska. Thanks given for tree assistance A special thanks to the people of Springville and Mapleton who so willingly participated in the Primary Children's Festival of Trees. I would like to give you a summary of our part of the festival: Karen Harmer, boutique chairman, turned in beautiful items. She had everything from stuffed animals, pictures to beautiful quilts. I can assure you they didn't stay long in the Boutigue Shop. Clair Peterson, homemade candy chairman, sent over two hundred pounds to the Sweet shop. This was wrapped beautifully by Aliens Super Save. Ivie Thorpe, bake goods chairman, sent over three hundred items for the Bake Shop. Those attending the festival Friday enjoyed Springvilles and Mapletons baked goods. Margaret Conover, financial chairman, contacted merchants for donations to cover the tree expense. She reported everyone was more than happy to contribute con-tribute to such a worthy cause. She kept you to date with the "Christmas Tree" in the Springville Herald. Pat Conover, tree chairman, was in charge of our tree. Those of you who attended the festival will vouch for me it was an outstanding tree. It was one of the first to be sold and we appreciate all of you who worked on the needlepoint ornaments to make it a special tree. Mary Cox, ticket chairman, had great success. She reported everyone helped to sell tickets. To you who sold tickets, we thank you. As you can see, by the summary sum-mary give, these committee ladies have been working hard. Each one of them have done a fine job in helping to make this years Festival of Trees a success. suc-cess. I would publicly like to thank them for their support. The bride-elect is a 1969 graduate of Springville High School and graduated last April from Brigham Young University with a degree in elementary education. 1 She is currently teaching sixth grade in the Idaho Falls area. The prospective bridegroom is a 1969 graduate of Orem High School and is currently attending Utah Technical College at Provo where he is studying electrical and automation technology. He fulfilled a LDS mission to the France-Belgium mission. Following their marriage they will make their home in Idaho Falls.
