A bill introduced by Sen. Philip A. Hart (D.-Mich.) would create an "Industrial Reorganization Commission" a new agency to reorganize roughly 40 percent of American Amer-ican industry. Presumably, it would start on the big firms, using slide rule measures of sales, earnings and prices. It would rip apart those successful organizations which have been responsible, in great measure, for the highest standards of living the world has ever known because of the economies of large-scale production. This would not only raise prices still more at home, but would make international inter-national competition even tougher, worsening our balance of payments and killing many job opportunities. American business firms grow big because their lower-cost lower-cost products are preferred in the marketplace by the people. Let's let the consumers, not the Congress, decide when big becomes bail.'
