Utah Symphony, famed native tenor join to present operatic program "An Evening of Operatic Favorites" is the title given to the final public performance by Maurice Abra vanel and the Utah Symphony in the current season. Utah's distinguished tenor, Glade Peterson, will be soloist. The special concert is set for Wednesday, May 16, at 8 p.m. in the Salt Lake Tabernacle. Mr. Abravanel has indicated that the concert will provide Utahns an opportunity to. hear the only Utah native to have" made a successful international operatic career. Born in the little farming community of Fairview, Utah, Glade Peterson is today a regular member of the singing staff of the respected Zurich Opera. From that home base, he has made guest appearances in the famous opera houses of Berlin, Paris, Milan (La Scala), Vienna, Hamburg, Munich, San Francisco, Boston and other world music capitals. "Glade certainly deserves the applause and recognition of his fellow Utahns," said Mr. Abravanel, "for his outstanding achievement in some of the world's leading opera houses where the competition--especially for an American-is very keen." For the occasion, Mr. Abravanel and Mr. Peterson have chosen a program that runs the gamut from Thine is My Heart Alone by Lehar to Wagner's magnificent "Meistersinger von Nuernberg." Nuern-berg." Now in his 12th season with the Zurich Opera, Glade has sung in that house alone over 600 performances per-formances of some 30 different roles, something of a record. His critics have cited the r wmT 1 Mr. Peterson lyricism of his voice which has been compared to the late Jusse Bjorling. His stentorian hignv notes have been compared to those of Mario del Monaco. i Tickets for the special May 16 concert are on sale now at 55 West First South, Salt Lake City, Utah 84101. Entertainment scheduled at Lagoon center What does a Salvation Army band leader, a female impersonator, im-personator, and Annie Oakley have in common? This year they comprise the lead characters of the three featured musical comedies to be presented by the University of Utah Theater Players at the Lagoon Opera House. "Guys and Dolls"--May 30 to June 23; "Where's Charley"--June 29 to July 28; and "Annie Get Your Gun"-August Gun"-August 3 to September 1, are the summer season, announced Robert Hyde Wilson, Opera House Impressario. "Guy's and Dolls" is a musical comedy fable about Broadway toughs and a Salvation Army Mission. "Where's Charley", based on what has undoubtedly been the most popular farce in the English language, "Charley's Aunt" by Brandon Thomas. This musical comedy was the first of the extra-ordinary trio of stage hits for which Frank Loesser wrote the words and music. Ben Lokey, choreographer for the three shows, will play Charley Wykeham, an Oxford student who masquerades as his own aunt in order to chaperone himself, his friend and their two charming dates to a party. The final production "Annie Get Your Gun" is perhaps the most popular musical comedy hit written by the late Irving Berlin. Bringing to life the original Ethel Merman role of Annie Oakley, will be Anne Rowe in her second lead of the season. Craig Stephenson, familiar for his performance last summer in "Pajama Game", is co-starred with Miss Rowe as her beau and rival at rifle-shooting. William Libby will trade his dice for buckskin as Buffalo Bill Cody, and Vickie Anderson will play Dolly Tate. Others in the cast will be announced an-nounced later.
