RAISIN MUNCHING COOKIES y2 cup butter or shortening y2 teaspoon salt 1 cup brown sugar y2 cup toasted wheat germ 1 tefspoon vanilla P.C"U'onita seedless 1 cup sifted Hour raisins Y2 teaspoon baking powder Vz C"P butterscotch chips Blend together butter, sugar, egg and vanilla. Add flour re-sifted re-sifted with baking powder and salt. Mix well. Stir in wheat germ, raisins and butterscotch chips. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto lightly greased baking sheets, about 2 inches apart. Bake in moderately hot oven (375F) 10 to 12 minutes, until browned. Let stand a minute, then remove to racks to cool. Makes about 3V6 dozen cookies. horn the Herald fifes 10 years ago The Jaycee Wives was listed as one of the most active groups during the Christmas season in charitable causes. Each member with a family of small children helped make a complete com-plete wardrobe for a doll, which was placed in a down town store window and tickets on it were sold. Fund derived from the project went to provide Christmas goodies for residents of a ward at Utah State Hospital. The board of education of Nebo School District announced its policy regarding gifts from solicitors and salesmen to personnel. It stated that it shall be contrary to district policy to accept on the basis of friendly contracts, any profferred gifts from such salesmen, vendors, contractors, or any others doing business with the district. David Dalton; a native of Springville, and his wife were visiting in the area for the holidays. Mr. Dalton, a member of the faculty at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas, announced he would give a benefit concert with his violin, in Provo, and his wife, a noted soprano, would sing several numbers at that presentation. Senior student of the week at Springville High School is Barry Clement . He is the son of Mr . and Mrs. Grant Clement of this city. He is serving as secretary of the science club at the school, is a member of the band, and is on the wrestling team. He maintains main-tains a high academic record and his hobbies are electronics, mathematics, and music. y Miss Melva Loback, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl C. Loback of this city, announces her engagement and approaching marriage to Melyin Taylor, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Taylor, of. Mapleton. They have chosen January 18 as their wedding date. Games scheduled this week will pit the Red Devils of Springville High School against Mt. Pleasant and BY High as their pre-season play ends. They travel to Mt. Pleasant Friday and meet the Provo squad Saturday. A3C Gary M. Hallenbeck of this city has been assigned to training at Edwards AFB, California. Marine recruit Private Alan P. Williams has completed basic training at the Recruit Depot at San Diego, California. 20 years ago Miss Evalo Harrison will wed Glen Leon Blackley in a home ceremony, to be solemnized December 30. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vivian W. Harrison and he is the son of Mrs. Blanch B. Brown, all of this city. Mr. and Mrs. Niels C. Hansen will observe their Golden Wedding Anniversary on Sunday, Sun-day, December 28. An open house will honor them on that date at their home, 329 E. 200 S. Springville's Red Devils are anticipating a cage battle with the Uintah Utes, set for Tuesday, December 30. This will be the next to last pre-season clash for the local squad and they are reportedly eager and ready. Attending the Naval Machinery Repairman School at .the U. S. Naval Training Center is Fireman James D. Kirkman, USN. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James B. Kirkman, of Springville. Named as a director of the Utah County Red Cross organization was Mrs. David Friel of Springville. She is one of two new directors and will succeed Mrs. Denzil Brown, of Provo in the office. Ralph Peay was re-elected president of the Hobble Crek Riding Club at a recently held dinner -meeting of the group. Other officers are J. Carl Boyer, vice-president, and Hasting Smith, secretary. Milton Giles is holdover director, Leonard Harward two-year director, and Max Sumsion, Murray Peay, Howard Thorpe, and Sam Kinser one year directors. Work is progressing rapidly on a project to deepend and clean the Hobble Creek Channel as a safeguard against future flood hazards. The job is being done by Floyd Whiting Construction Company of Salt Lake City under contract with supervision of an army engineer. The operetta "Mother Goose" will be presented in January, under the supervision of Alberta Hoover. A large cast has been selected and enthusiasm is high. Among bargains listed in a display ad for the local Safeway store are beef roasts at 73 cents per pound, link sausage at 59 cents per pound, sliced bacon at 45 cents, and hams at 59 cents. Tom turkeys are selling for 49 to 59 cents and hends at 55 to 63 cents.
