TALUC Many of the concerns which come to me from the patrons of the schools have to do with a, desire to improve or increase certain services. Each individual in-dividual parent, teacher or administrator can see the need for better bus service, more supplies or texts, improved libraries, better equipment budgets, more funds for maintenance, etc. However, the expressed needs far exceed the ability of Nebo District ! to provide for these services. According to the audit just completed on last year's operation, our expenditures exceeded our revenue by $201,971. However, since we had a small beginning balance at the beginning of last year, the net result of last year's operation put the Disl rict in a tough spot to begin this budget year-over $100,000 in the red. It is our hope that we will be able to hold the line and cut back certain service and expenditures in an effort to maintain a balanced budget. At any time it becomes necessary to cut back on programs or to economize, it affects people in our communities. We operate at several disadvantages in Nebo. We receive less money to operate on than our neighboring districts and considerably less than the Stateaverageeven though we do have a State equilization program. Because of a low assessed valuation, we receive considerably less than most districts in the State to provide for our building and equipment needs. But even though we really are poor compared to most districts in the State, we have another distinct disadvantage in the high cost created by the number of schools which we operate. The net result of these disadvantages are lower salaries for both professional and classified employees, less money to operate the maintenance main-tenance program, fewer supplies, sup-plies, etc. Next week I would like to discuss the difference between bet-ween Nebo and other districts in the State in the amount of money spent per student to point out more clearly the financial position of Nebo. A A 11 Dr. Joe A. Reidhead OF HOWfLITV BY JANE ASHLEY Mandarin Sauce for Pork Corn starch is an important ingredient in Chinese cooking. With it, the Chinese achieve the slightly thickened transparent trans-parent sauces that give delicacy deli-cacy to their dishes and make them lovely to look at as well as delicious to eat. . Mandarin Orange Sauce is such a sauce. The blending of several flavors belonging typically typi-cally to the Chinese cuisine, go into the making of this gourmet sauce. Allspice, ginger, gin-ger, sesame seed and mandarin mandar-in orange segments all contribute con-tribute to the subtle flavor. The sesame seed add interesting interest-ing texture contrast, too, and orange segments provide the just right color fillip. This sauce is especially good with pork or chicken dishes. Mandarin Orange Sauce 1 (11-ounce) can mandarin orange segments 1 tablespoon corn starch 3 cup light corn syrup 4 teaspoon ground allspice !4 teaspoon ground ginger 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seed 1 tablespoon lemon juice Drain syrup from orange segments into a small saucepan. sauce-pan.
