I TheSun Bowl, only a few short miles from Ihe Mexico border, (nay seem like an improbable setting for the Mountain Cats who must now decide which way they are going to move in the Western Athletic Conference race. On the other hand, the Cougars may not have to make that decision the Miners may make it for them. It appears the Uteps are swinging back into top form with two consecutive wins, which means the Cougars may be getting Ihe Miners at the wrong time. ' Hut the Miners may be saying the same thing about Brigham Young, since the Cougars have now won two straight following a slump of sorts. The latest BYU win was a 25-7 trouncing of favored Tulsa on the Hurricanes' wet, muddy field at Tulsa. The win upped the Cougar season record to 4-3 for the season. ! Texas-KI Paso, meanwhile was notching its first WAC win. a light 12-7 decision over Wyoming at Laramie. The victory gave the Miners a 4-3 mark fdr the year with four games to go. BYU Kittens host Utags BYU freshman coach Mel Olson has nothing against fair play and showing courtesy to the opponent, but when his team turns the ball over to the other side. 11 times as it did last week against Ricks College, even Olson will admit that there is such a thing as overdoing the charity bit. Mel didn't hesitate to point this nut to his freshman football players as they prepared for this week's encounter with Utah Stale's freshmen. Consequently, it isn't likely the Kittens will be nearly as hospitable when they host Utah Stale this time around. The game will gel underway Friday at 2 p.m. in the BYU stadium. The Kittens, despite droppin a 30-12 decision to Ricks las week, ran up 376 yards total offense and demonstrated they can move the ball. The game was decided by six Kitten fumbles and five pass interceptions in-terceptions which the eager Vikings were only too willing to R" her in. -ra ' IT-. Fall fishing is reported good Fall fishing is rounding out deer hunting trips for Utah ouldoorsmen who take fishing tackle along on the hunt. Fall fishing on Utah waters is good. Crowds are scarce and fish are hungry as natural food diminish. Brown and brook trout are especially susceptible to lures and flies this time of year. Many deer hunters throw in some fishing tackle as they load up for deer hunting. Freshly caught I rout makes a welcome addition to camp menus. Hunters going to areas with fishing waters nearby, should take fishing gear along. A lunker trout or two will add to the enjoyment en-joyment of any hunting trip. Coach Mike Jacobsen's eleven has played some outstanding ball during the year despite their 19 record and had not injuries plagued them early in the season, their record would have been quite different. Provo made both their touchdowns touch-downs in the second quarter and ihe Devils held them throughout Ihe last half and added a touchdown touch-down of their own to surprise the highly favored visitors. Neither team scored in the opening quarter though the Bulldogs had a 1 and 10 on the Springville four. The strong Devil line held for three downs and caused a Provo fumble which they recovered to keep the Dogs from scoring. Passes accounted for the scoring of the Bulldogs in the second quarter as they got on the board twice to lead 14-0 at halftime.
