Wallace Clegg Erdmann rites held here Monday noon Funeral services were held Monday in the Second-Eighth Ward under the direction of Bishop William G. Ruff of the Eighth Ward for Clarence D. Erdmann, 73, who died June 23, 1971 in the University Hospital, Salt Lake City. Burial was in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery directed by Wheeler Mortuary. He was born May 28, 1898 in Springville, a son of William C. and Augusta Erdmann Erdmann. Erd-mann. He married Elen Poulsen on September 21, 1928 in the Manti Temple. Mr. Erdmann was a High Priest in the Eighth Ward and had worked as a Ward Teacher supervisor. He was an electrical contractor and had worked on many of the homes and buildings in this area. At the age of three, Mr. Erdmann Erd-mann had been paralyzed in his legs. A year later his father died and his mother had to support herself and her two smaller children. Mr. Erdmann learned to sew by helping his mother operate the pedal of an old-fashioned old-fashioned treadle machine. Later he took over sewing chores, operating the machine by tying a stocking to the pedal and pulling it with one hand while maneuvering the fabric with his other hand. He went to school pulled in a little wagon by neighborhood children. Later he used a wheelchair. He was determined to walk and devised a method of propelling himself by placing his hands on his insteps, keeping his arms stiff and using his shoulders as he would his hips and this method he used to do all of his maneuvering on his electrical work which he did throughout his life. He worked as Springville City electrician for more than 40 years and wired churches, schools, homes, public buildings, pipe organs, heating and cooling units and appliances of all kinds. He and his helper wired the entire coal camp at Columbia, Carbon County for Columbia TRANSPORTATION LIMOUSINE SERVICE TO AND FROM YOUR DOORSTEP DOOR-STEP AND SALT LAKE AIRPORT For information call 374-1402 PAINT. He wired apartments at Bingham and even wired the first drive-in movie in Utah. Mr. Erdmann made his own 7 vehicle when automobiles came into popularity. He used bicycle and automobile parts. Later he drove regular automobiles adapted to his needs by his own ; designs and creative devices. : A lover of water sports, he was . a charter member of the Provo . Boat Club and built and operated , all types of boats and rode his own surfboard. His hobbies included boating, fishing, carpentry, car-pentry, cabinet making, sewing, . and cooking. He was a charter member of the Springville Lions Club. He and his three sons built six homes, three which were occupied by his children. He planned the buildings, supervised super-vised the construction, and did the cabinet work. In his later years, he returned to sewing, making beautiful and intricate quilts which he gave as gifts to family members and friends. Last winter he pieced a king-sized quilt, made appliqued . barbecue aprons for friends, and baked cookies and fruit cake. Mr. Erdmann prided himself on being able to support himself, his wife, and his family "Welfare is for other people" he used to say. Even when it became apparent his active working days were numbered, he remodeled his shop into apartments so his family would have an income. Surviving are his widow of Springville; three sons and a daughter, Clarence Donald Erdmann of Mapleton; Wendell G. Erdmann of Springville; Charles Michael Erdmann of Heber City; and Mrs. Anna Jean King of llilo, Hawaii; and 21 grandchildren.
