Colmar Blood, Fire Gave 63rd Test B y NEA Service Easily the most awesome of divisional nicknames is that of the 63rd Infantry Division, which goes by the name of "Blood and Fire." The nickname was lifted from the text of the res olution of the Allies at the C a s a b 1 a nca Conference to make their enemies en-emies "bleed and burn in expiation of their crimes against humanity. The shoulder patch of the 63rd features fea-tures flames and a blood-tipped dagger. The men of the 63rd had their first chance at the Germans in the closing weeks of 1944. One regiment the 254th made a particularly auspicious debut. At tached to the Third Infantry Division during the savage fight for the Colmar bridgehead, the outfit received a unit citation for outstanding performance of duty, helping to cut off Colmar from the Rhine in what ahs been described de-scribed as "one of the hardest and bloodies tcampaigns of the war." In February, the reassembled division crossed the Saar north of Saarguemines, and led the Seventh Sev-enth Army back onto German soil, from which it had been forced to withdraw. A few weeks later, it smashed into the Siegfried Sieg-fried Line. Early in April, the 63rd destroyed the 17th SS Divi sion, crossed the Neckar River, and pushed the enemy back south of the Kochter River. The 63rd followed relentlessly after, the retreating Germans. The division chased the Nazis through Wurttemberg and Bavaria down to the Danube, crossed the river and moved down to Landsberg, at the edge of the Bavarian Alps. At the end of March, the 63rd made a distinctive haul the sreat university city of Heidelberg. BARBS By HAL COCHRAN . It's no wonder the Argentine situation goes, around in circles. One revolution after another! A Cincinnati dentist says toothpicks are okay socially. But you still shouldn't stand on the steps of a hotel where you haven't eaten. a a a Harvard geologist predicts the earth will keep going for billions of years. It would be interesting to stick around and see if he's right. The whole country is going to get the bird from the farmers this year and like it! More than 44 million turkeys have been raised for Thanksgiving. e Restoration of free speech in Japan came at an appropriate time.
