JANUARY. 17, tt4 Many Entomology Specimens Given To Y' Department Many valuable entomology specimens have been added to the Brigham Young1 university collection collec-tion in recent weeks by former students now serving abroad with the armed forces of the nation, according to Dr. Vasco M. Tanner, Tan-ner, department head. Sixteen species of reptiles, mosquito mos-quito larvae, and adult mosquitoes mos-quitoes were received from the Georgia area, where Dr. D. Elden Beck, formerly of the BYU zoo-ology zoo-ology and entomology department and now a first lieutenant with the army sanitation corps, is stationed. sta-tioned. Dr. Beck is doing special research for the army on diseases carried by the insect, and through this work and outside research accumulated the group sent to the university. Interesting insect specimen material, ma-terial, which frequents the country coun-try in Texas, has been received from Corporal Arthur Chapman. Pfc. Representing the "Washington and Oregon areas, are reptile specimens sent by Sergeant James Bee, Dr. Tanner said. Second Lt. Rowe of this city, have received word that their son, Don Rowe has been promoted to the rank of sergeant. Don has taken part in the battles of Africa and Sicily. After the latter he was stricken with malaria fever, from which he has now recovered. He is stationed somewhere in England. Eng-land. Sergeant Rowe has been on overseas duty for sixteen months He was reported missing in February, Febru-ary, 1943. Three weeks after the report reached his parents, they received mail from him stating that he was safe.
