L. Arnold, twelfth naval district dis-trict director of naval officer procurement. Both 17 and 18 year old men may now qualify for naval flight training leading to "The Navy Wings of Gold." Graduating sen-, iors, 17 and 18 years old, of high academic standing, who will graduate grad-uate before March 1, 19V4, and high school graduates under 19 are eligible for the naval flight training program. Described as the "finest aeronautical education in the world," the navy program provides for two semesters at a navy approved college prior to actual pre-ftght training. The WAVES, already 404)00 strong, are seeking to swell their enlistments to 92,000 by the end of 1944, in order that the navy may make more trained men available for combat service. Captain Arnold Indicated that with the navy entering upon a long and intensive war in the Pacific, that it must have the services of every eligible young man and woman. Lieutenant Frank P. Nibley will head the visiting board which will interview inter-view both men and women. Mayor of Portland, Congressman of Idaho At It Again PORTLAND, Dee. 28 (OS) The mayor of Portland and the con gressman from Idaho were at it today, with Mayor Earl Riley having the last word at this writing over Rep. Henry C DWORSHAK. The name-calling started when Republican DWORSHAK said in .Washington tne office, or war in formation had been "Indiscreet" in sending Republican Riley on a recent tour of Britain. To which Riley replied perhaps) Idaho " had been "indiscreet' enough to send a man to congress "who is not sufficiently familiar with world affairs to know that Winston Churchill is a great said beloved prime' minister and that his abilities and friendships are recognized and appreciated in America." Riley was referring to the con gressman's objections to Riley's quoted remarks that Churchill is a great statesman and that ha and Roosevelt could change places to the benefit and satisfaction ox both nations. Riley also commented he had never heard of Dworshak before. (Burley, Idaho, chamber of com merce please note.)
