Still undecided un-decided is his possible return via the Far East, India, the Dutch East Indies and Indo-China. In England last spring, Donovan made a thorough survey of invasion inva-sion defenses, military intelligence and the Royal Air Force. He spent a week in the field with the British Brit-ish army and made several flights with the RAF. Various U. S. army, air corps and navy observers observ-ers are now attached to the British Brit-ish forces as the result of Donovan's Dono-van's trip; also he established close intelligence ties on Axis espionage and fifth column operations. On his previous British mission. Donovan traveled as the personal representatire of Navy Secretary Knox. The only hostile note he encountered in London was from an American Amabssador Joe Kennedy, who made it plain that he disapproved of the trip. PRESIDENTIAL IfUG Aided by three bright-eyed youngsters, the President had the time of his life when he officially launched this year's sale of tuberculosis tuber-culosis Christmas seals. This is an annual ceremony, as traditional with presidents as tossing out the first ball for the mayor league baseball season. Roosevelt's small visitors consisted con-sisted of a boy and two 'girls, one being attired in boy's clothes. This prompted some teasing by her companions, but finally the other little girl turned to Roosevelt and said seriously: "Mr. President, we're only joking. She Isn't a boy, she's a girl." Roosevelt laughed, picked up the boy-cirl in his . arms. "Are you really a girl?"' he teased. "You make a fine looking boy with that haircut." "Oh, I'm a girl," she replied, "but I'll let you call me a boy if you want to. It's worth it to be hugged by the President.'' How important this Ls in battle was learned when the French, in order to offset the great cold of high altitudec 20 to 30 below heated the interior of their fighting fight-ing planes. This proved a mistake, mis-take, since the interior heat frosted frost-ed the windshields and prevented clear vision. Thus, French aviators,' avia-tors,' instead of fighting it out with the German invaders, had to turn tail and fly home. The American remedy is to provide pro-vide the fliers with equipment that will keep them warm without heating up the plane. The Germans Ger-mans used a silk underwear arrangement ar-rangement which was wired for warmth from the plane's generator. gener-ator. The proposed rubber equipment includes suit, gloves, and boots. Though rubber ordinarily is an insulator, in-sulator, it can be made to transmit tran-smit electricity and throw off heat in the process. This is the principle prin-ciple of the self-heatintr suit now undergoing tests at Dayton. . ! WHAT BRITONS READ : WPA's library service made an Interesting discovery in a survey to ascertain what the people of war-strafed Britain are reading thse days. - One fact uncovered was that the long, dreary hours of blackout, black-out, with no outside recrention, have greatly revived interest In household arts and handicraft. Books on these subjects are at a premium. Also, the classics are In heavy demand, with Shakes peare, Chaucer, Dickens and Kip- ane as the favorites. But the one subject in which Britons are most interested is the author of their affliction. The most widely-read book in England, according to the WPA survey, is Hitler's "Mein Kampf." I MAIL BAG ! Provo Man Gets Greeting From Antartic Region All the way from Little America in the Antarctic region has come the first official Christmas greeting greet-ing to be received this year by Brigham Young university. The message came Wednesday in a radiogram to Dr. George H. Hansen, professor of geology and geography, from Dr. R. G. Frazior of Bingham, physician with Admiral Ad-miral Richard E. Byrd's Antarctic expedition. The radioed message came from Wr.st Base in Little America to the Army Amateur Radio Station WLMC at High Point, N. C, from which it was transmitted to Provo. Contents of the raaiogram were: "Dr. George H. Hansen, Brigham Young university, Provo, Utah. Season's greetings from Little America. Will be home soon after a happy and prosperous experience. experi-ence. Best regards to all. Dr. Frazier." In another recent message, Dr. Hansen learned that Dr. Frazier, had gone with part of Admiral Byrd's group on a dog sled trip of several hundred miles to the Queen Maude range on the great south polar continent. "It is likely that the present message was transmitted just after Dr. Fraz-ier's Fraz-ier's return from the overland trip," Dr. Hansen said. Correspondence between Dr. Frazier and the B. Y. U. geographer geog-rapher began last October when Dr. Frazier requested a Brigham Young university pennant and a copy of the school year book to take on the expedition. Last March Dr. Frazier sent back a message indicating he would bring a penguin pen-guin and a seal home for the B. Y. U. museum.
