' ,.;c A ,Vv rL ' After the heartless heavy-hitting Timps had clouted out five runs in the first frame, the Coor's were still alive and. kicking, but that first inning barrage was the beginning of , the end for the game but outclassed . Ogden crew. The Provo club felled the Coors to their knees in the fourth with an eight-run spree, and then finished the Ogden club , off at leisure. - . - , . The slaughter : was stopped in the seventh inning because of previous pre-vious softball, arrangements at Timp park. ; , ; 4 , V Vrf llnney. Wins , 1 ; : Pinney Beverage trounced Brig-ham Brig-ham City, ',10-2, and Magna-Gar-fleld tipped Gemmell club, 6-5, to remain tied for the loop lead. Provo's triumph moved it into a third-place tie with Gemmell. -The victory was the Timps third in five starts. , The slugging Timps conclus ively demonstrated the long-await ed recovery of their respective batting eyes as they crashed out 26 hits from three Ogdert hurlers. Spot Clegg, who hurled for the Provo club except the last frame when he was removed- for a pinch hitter, allowed Ogden 13 hits, but was never in trouble icause of the assault his mates led against the losers. Ralph Crowton set the Ogden batsmen down without , a. hit in the final frame, the only one he pitched.. Manager Lob Collins' crew did' n't beat around the bush - about their intentions of clouting the Ogden club into submission. In the first frame, Sammy Christensen and Lee Christiansen singled and then scored i on' LaVar Kump's long triple. Fran Dudley singled, scoring Kump, and scored himself when Len Page smacked out a bingle. Glen Berge sacrificed Page to second, and LaVere ( Shorty ) Shurtliff knocked jhim home with another single to end the scoring. Lob Pulls Fast One ... , . The Provo club failed to regis ter, in the second, but picked up a couple of runs in the third on a walk, a hit, an error, and, an in field out. i : ::v It was, in the third inning that Manager Collins staged ; one of his amusing incidents. Spot Clegg was, on. second, and Collins . was coaching in the third base box. The wily manager called - to Ray r Driscoll, Ogden hurler, that he wanted to examine the ball. Dris-cottV Dris-cottV a naive, obliging player, tossed the ball in Collins' direction. direc-tion. Lob made no attempt ;to catch it, and Clegg easily took third while the ball rolled away. . In the big fourth inning, the Timps showed no mercy at all for the napless Coors as tney smacked smack-ed out seven hits for eight runs. Kump got a pair of singles, and iran .Dudley clipped out two doubles in one inning. . . : Provo picked up three more counters in the filth, two more in the sixth and seventh to all but tack the nails into - the Ogden club's coffin. - v , , i, utile Attempt- , .4 Ogden maue a "utile - attempt at a: rally in the sixth inning that netted lour runs, but Provo was never seriously threatened." Og- den's other runs came in the third and fifth frames: : Every piayer wiio took a bat got at lease one hit except Manager Collins, who got on because of an error when ,he plnch-hltted; in the seventh "for Clegg. LaVar Kump hit three singles and . a triple in four trips to the plate, and Lee Christiansen bagged five hits in six bats, three or them on bunts. J?ran Dudley , cracked out three doubles in five attempts. . JLou Bryan, was the big gun for Ogden, hitting a pair of doubles with men on bases. . : Pinney had little trouble in toppling Brigham City. The Bev-eragemen Bev-eragemen laid down a 15-hit at tack , for; their :10 runs. LaMar Sharp was never In - trouble al though he allowed the Peaches 13 hits.-, i.
