Enforcement power Is .broadened .broad-ened under the new housing and rent act of 1848 to the extent that the housing expediter is given authority to seelt injunctions against violation of any provision of the rent law. Previously, his power was limited to court' injunctions in-junctions against overcharges. The change permits use of the Injunctions against unlawful evictions evic-tions and any other rent violations. vio-lations. If the landlord has contract ed to sell the place to a purchaser for the purchasers immediate personal occupancy. 3. If the landlord wishes to demolish the structure or to alter it substantially under specified conditions. 4. If the landlord seeks to withdraw with-draw the place from the rental market (such accommodations cannot thereafter be rented). 5. If housing accommodations have been acquired by the state for public improvement and are rented temporarily before the construction of such improvement. improve-ment. 6. If the landlord is exemot from taxation under Section 101 (6) of the internal revenue code (non-profit, religious, charitable and educational institutions) and wishes the premises forthe purpose pur-pose of housing staff members. Security Deposit The law now aflthonzes the collection of one-month rent security deposit if that was the rental practice in the particular area before Jan. 30, 1942. or was customarily required, before that date by the same landlord in the renting of the particular housing accommodations involved. Title I Housing The 30-day veterans preference pref-erence to rent or purchase 'newly constructed housing accommodations is continued to April 1. 1949. This applies to all for-sale and for-rent housing, other than that constructed con-structed for owner occupancy, completed after June 30, 1947, and Before April 1, 1949. The law requires that all such constructions be offered for sale or rent exclusively to veterans or their families during construction and for 30 days after completion. The liquidating functions of the veterans emergency housing act art continued. This includes liquidating liq-uidating the premium payments and guaranteed market programs and investigating complaints growing out of houses built under priority authorization. Authority of the housing expediter expe-diter to require a permit for construction con-struction of amusement or recreational recre-ational purposes is repealed. Attorney General Approves Alpine School Bond Issue The legal route was clear today for the $1.4'50,000 Alpine Al-pine school, building fund bond issue. The state attorney general's gen-eral's office Thursday placed its stamp of legal approval on the issue, although S. D. Huffaker, deputy attorney general, said it would put the school district "within a few dollars" of its legal bonding limit. The issue was recently overwhelmingly approved by the electorate in a special election. New Nylon Flag Over the Capitol WASHINGTON, April 10. David Lynn, architect of the capitol, said a nylon flag is supposed to last longer than bunting. Bunting Bunt-ing flags for the capitol have been purchased at a rate of 12 to 14 a year.
