Show SdMIE IF Y 2 Sunday, April 20, 1947 SUNDAY HERALD Teachers' Organization Plgns Convention Here Next Week .The eighth annual convention of Alpha Theta, state organization of Delta Kappa Gamma, honorary society for women teachers, will be held in Provo, Saturday, April 26, with Provo's Gamma chapter as hostess group, at the First ward chapel. The theme chosen for the conclave is, "Through the devotion of its people lies the safety of the nation." Dr. J. C. Moffitt, superintendent of Provo City schools will discuss "Newer Trends in Education," at the luncheon meeting at noon. An executive meeting for all chapter officers will be held at 11 a. m. A business meeting will be held at 2 p.m., after which a Centennial Art Tea will be given at the Art Exhibit building in Springville. Mrs. Jessie Arrowsmith, president of Gamma chapter, is in charge of arrangements. She is working with Wyroa Hansen, convention chairman. Mrs. Evelyn I. Turner, Turn-er, state president, will preside. Mason announce an-nounce the marriage of their daughter, Elaine, to Kenneth L. Rothwell, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Rothwell, April 3. For her wedding the bride chose a beige gabardine suit with an orchid corsage. Mrs. Shirley North was her only attendant and Lyman Rothwell was best man. A reception was held in the Springville LDS Second ward amusement hall with Ted May-nard May-nard as master of ceremonies. The newlyweds are making their home in Provo, where Mr. Rothwell is attending the Brig-ham Brig-ham Young university. Literary Club Birthday Party The first birthday anniversary of Dekatos Literary club was celebrated by members and their Husbands, Friday at Virginia Manor, in Orem., Mrs. Stanley Clark, Jr. was chairman of the dinner meeting. Mrs. Harry -Hal-laday was toastmistress. Musical numbers were furnished. by Mrs. Elsie Bradshaw and MrsVvPallas Young. RIVERGROVE RELIEF SOCIETY The social science lesson for Rivergrove ward will be given by Mrs. Alice Hawkins, Monday at 2:30 p.m. Art Exhibitor n Springville SPRINGVILLE Mrs. Marie Clark Miller, artist and dramatic entertainer of Glendale, Calif., formerly of Springville, is spending spend-ing a few days here, coming especially es-pecially to attend the April art exhibit at the high school .where she has three paintings on dis play. Mrs. Miller has just had a suc cessful one-person show of her paintings in Glendale, sponsored by the Glendale Art association. She now has a group of paintings at the Dixie art festival at St. George. The three water colors in the current Springville show are, "Cup of Gold," "Fruit Still-Life," and "Mums." The latter two paintings are recent prize win ners and both have attracted much favorable comment from visitors at the Springville exhibit. Mrs. Miller's, "'Fruit Still-Life" Still-Life" won first cash award given by the Schubert club in Los Angeles An-geles while "Mums" received the Water color award last year. The latte'r picture portrays the artist's husband behind a newspaper with a vase of flowers nearby and a cat lying on the floor. Cats are a favorite subject of the artist art-ist and according to art critics at the local gallery, this picture has outstanding merit. Mrs. Clark was a special guest with other Springville artists at the Kiwanis club inter-club program pro-gram Friday evening and is planning plan-ning to remain in Springville until about Monday. Canyon Party For Students OREM The Lincoln high school seniors enjoyed an afternoon after-noon of fun, Thursday, when they went to Canyon Glen where thev Dlaved ball, held a nrnoram and had a picnic cooked over camp i ires. They were accompanied by teachers Bovd C Davit Keith Boyer and E. B. Terry. Smorgasbord Is Party Feature A Smorgasbord was given by Psi Chapter of Lambda Delta Sigma in the club room of the Smith building, this week, at the first function of its kind to be attempted by any chapter of the organization. Mae Jensen was chairman of the party, which featured in true Scandinavian fashion, a Smorgasbord laden with food of every type prepared in most attractive ways. Assisting the chairman were June Tanner. Magdalene Miller and Psi chapter chap-ter chairman, Mrs. Jean Parker. Guests were presented cor sages of daffodils to match the lovely centerpiece used on the table. String music was played by members of the group, including: in-cluding: June Tanner. Thursday at Joaquin school, where eighty members and guests were' greeted by Mrs. Glen Ken-ner Ken-ner and Mrs. William Connell, co-chairmen. They were assisted by Mrs. John Hilgendorff, Mrs Wendell Rigby, Mrs. Stanley Dunn, Mrs. Moroni Cottom, Mrs. Milton Marshall, Mrs. D. L. Rob ers, Mrs. Deb Warner and Mrs. Grace McCqnkie. Highlight of the afternoon was the reading of the play, "Heaven Can Wait" by Chris Sanders, who was introduced by Miss Jean Reese. Mrs. D. V. Tregeagle, president of the organization, presided. Music was played by Arden Lane, Rayma Johnson and Evelyn Hilgendorff. A spring theme was predominant predomin-ant in decorations and at the table, where refreshments were served. Couple Leaves For Illinois Announcement is made today by Mrs. E. Ray Lee, of Provo, of the marriage of daughter, Ber-nice Ber-nice Hodson, to Loren H. Miller, son of Mrs. Erma Miller, of Decatur, De-catur, Illinois. The marriage took place in Salt Lake City, April 12. The young couple left this week for Decatur, 111., where they will make their home. For Orem Club Orem Women's club heard Miss Rosella Compton, of Morgan, Utah, a student of Jay -Keeler. in a recital of piano selections writ ten by Bach, Debussy, Brahms and other composers. Miss Compton Comp-ton told interesting stories of the composers and their music. Mrs. L. S. Maycock, president of the club, presided at the regular meeting held al Scera theatre in Orem. The club collect was read by Mrs. Parlell Peterson and the flag salute by Mrs. Neil Bunnell. A short business meeting was held before the time was turned to Mrs. Thorval Rigby, program chairman. Gillman of Orem was speaker for the occasion. Students from the fifth and sixth grades furnished musical numbers and exhibitions of square dancing. Women Plan Charity Drive The Mt. Timpanogos auxiliary. known also as the auxiliary to Spanish American war veterans, will conduct a carnation sale, Saturday, April 23, in Provo. Funds raised in the drive will be donated to widows and others in need of aid. Mrs. Joel T. Brown is chairman of the sale. She requests women who are willing to help with the drive, to contact Mrs. Herman Grimm or Mrs. Robert Crosby. Blazer Day . Bishop Earl Cray- thorn officiated. Mrs. Wetzel is the former Doris Bullock, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Bullock. Parents of the groom are Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wetzel, of Denver, Colorado. For her wedding and the reception, re-ception, which followed, the bride wore a lovely gown of starched chiffon, over ice blue Provo Club At Art Exhibit Another Provo club took advantage ad-vantage of their opportunity to see the Springville Art Exhibit, when members of CNM club met at the gallery, Friday afternoon. Mrs. Mae Huntington conducted the tour through the galleries and gave interesting comment on the various art pieces. Following the art tour, the ladies were entertained at luncheon lun-cheon at the home of Mrs. Clara Boyer, in Springville. Attending were Mrs. Lottie Black, Mrs. Ireta Tangren, Mrs. Wilma Hawkins, Mrs. Myrtle Dean and Mrs. Irma T. Walker, of Provo; Mrs. Stella Taylor, American Fork; Mrs. Claire Roberts. Rob-erts. Salt Lake City; Mrs. May Noell and Mrs. Sally Washburn. Draper; Lena Patrick and Clara Boyer, Springville. satin. Her bouquet was red roses with gardenias. Mrs. Colleen Pinegar attended the bride as matron of honor. She wore a pink formal gown. Lois Bullock, a bridesmaid, wore green taffeta. Donna Jones chose an orchid frock and Lorraine Payne's costume was of pale gold silk. Carol and Chirley Chapman, cousins of the bride, were flower flow-er girls. They wore dainty pastel formats and carried baskets of spring flowers. Mothers of the young couple received the guests. Mrs. Wetzel wore a smart gray print dress with black accessories. Mrs. Bullock Bul-lock wore an attractive beige dress accentuated with black. Corsages were presented by the groom to women of the bridal party. Gene Bullock attended the groom as best man. The receiving line formed in the rotunda of the chapel, which was decorated with palms, plants and spring flowers. Over 300 guests greeted the bride and groom. Bishop Earl Craythorn was master of ceremonies for the program pro-gram which was given in connection con-nection with the reception. Clau-dine Clau-dine Marshall sang solo numbers and joined Helen Elliott and Mimi Christensen for trio selections, selec-tions, accompanied by Doris Newton. Kenneth Stubbs gave a pantomime, Ruth Fish favored with a reading and Reed Bullock sang. Dancing was enjoyed later in the evening-.
