Show Home Nursipgiffiass Reception Follows Vows Golden Wedd inaCelebra ted V V Sunday, January 26, 1947 SUNDAY HERALD Jaycee Wives At Monthly DinnerMeetHearCinderella High-lighting the monthly dinner meeting of the Jaycee Jay-cee Wives held in Orem Friday ".evening, Mrs. Mary Williams,' Wil-liams,' national winner of the Cinderella contest in New York recently, gave an interesting review of her experiences experi-ences while a contestant in the month long improvement race. . Mrs. Jack V. Dixon, president, presided and the program pro-gram was arranged by the blue color group with Mrs. Douglas H. Hendricks as -color captain and Mrs. Harvey Ford director in charge. Members of the blue color group assisting were Mrs. Earl Strang, Mrs. Thomas P. McDer-mott, McDer-mott, Mrs. Richard Sylvester, Mrs. D. R. Norton, Mrs. Dale and Mrs. Robert D. Schofield Webster. A lovely Valentine motif was carried out in the table decorations decor-ations with attractive red and white tables and individual Val entines given as favors. Music was furnished by Elton Sumner, who whistled two solos, and Bes Clark, who favored with two trombone solos accompanied on the piano by his wife, Mrs. Clark. A report on the Rheumatic Fever foundation was given by Mrs. Alma Neilson and Mrs. Wes ton Garrett and it was decided that the Jaycee Wives would sponsor a project to raise money to be donated to the foundation. A report was aiso given Dy mra Ronald Norton. Mrs., John Man ning and Mrs. David Norton on the child health clinic, i New members introduced in eluded Mrs. Ray Heal, Mrs. Joe .traher, Mrs. George Rea, Mrs. Merlin J. Slack, Mrs. Venice Sudweeks, Mrs. Meldon Warner and Mrs. La Vee Lamb. Guests were Mrs. Betty Hansen, Mrs. El-wood El-wood Haws, Mrs. Lucy Fagan, Miss Cleo Copeland and Miss Na-dine Na-dine Mitchell, Utah county Cen-tenial Cen-tenial queen. There were 57 Jaycee Wives attending. Membership Banquet Set OREM The Orem Jaycee Wives met at the Robert Mem- mott home, with Geraldine Park, Nita Park and Lorna Bunnell as hostesses for the evening. President Helen Ireland presided pre-sided and conducted the business meeting, during which plans were made for a banquet at Virginia Vir-ginia Manor on Wednesday evening, eve-ning, Feb. 5, to which all wives of the Orem Jaycee are invited. They are asked to contact Mrs Ward Ireland, phone 1861W for reservations. After the business meeting a social was enjoyed and a delicious deli-cious lunch was served by the hostesses to Mrs. Ireland, Ruby Olsen, Helen Hall, Norma Bunnell, Bun-nell, Shirley Larsen, Dorothy Pyne, Edith Peterson, Ann Swindlehurst and Kathleen West. Beta Aglaian Club At Meeting SPANISH FORK Mrs. Karl Dunn was hostess to the Beta Aglaian Ag-laian club Thursday evening with Mrs. Roy Barney conducting, in answer to roll call each member responded with a new year's wish or resolution. Mrs. F. R. Bellows was in charge of the program and Miss Mattie Bellows sang "The Old Lamplighter"; Mrs. Tom Youd gave a reading, "How Music Inspires." ' - " k I ' Part of a clasa of 22 girls now being given instruction in home nursing at Lincoln high school. 30 hours of Giving a report of the state Golf association meeting held in Salt Lake City recently, Mrs. Thora Wilder discussed the pos sibilities of a women's organization organiza-tion in Utah county participating in the Centennial sports program. at the business and social meet of the Women's Timpanogos Golf association Friday evening at the Golf clubhouse. Officers of the association were introduced, Mrs. Thomas G Pierpont, as president; Mrs Norman C. Wilder, vice-presi dent; Miss Helen Jess, secretary and treasurer; Miss Amelia Buck ley, handicap chairman; Miss Jessie Schofield, team captain. Mrs. Pierpont briefly outlined the plans for future activities and Miss Jessie Schofield presented the Sears Roebuck trophy to the winner of last summer s tourna ment, Mrs. Norman Wilder. A number of new members were welcomed into the organization. A delicious buffet lunch was served the 4Q members and gaests attending, which was followed fol-lowed by social chat and tables of bridge. 9 Club Notes VAL NORN Val Norn Alumnae members will meet Monday evening at 8 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Mignon Murdock, 784 West Center Cen-ter street. DANCING FRIENDS Members of the Dancing Friends club and their guests, will have their monthly dance in the ballroom of the Joseph Smith building Wednesday evening. even-ing. The theme, for the evening will be "Turnabout". One of four classes now being given in the Alpine school dis trict, the American Red Cross home nursing class at Lincoln high school is drawing enthusiastic enthusi-astic response from a group of 22 senior girls, many of them already wearing diamonds, who have elected to take the class. Under the direction of Miss Marjorie Holdaway, Home-mak ing teacher and Mrs. Mabel Jones, Lehi, public health nurse, the class requires wort.. , Some of ' the most interesting aspects of the classes -are given by Mrs. Jones, who gives demonstrations dem-onstrations of care of babies; and bedside nursing. In addition to. the classes at Lincoln, classes are being held at Lehi -high school, with 27 students stu-dents under Miss Alice Dixon, taking the course; in American Fork, 12 students under Miss Kathryn Weeks : and in Pleasant Grove, 29 students under Miss Colleen Rowley. All of these classes are being instructed by Mrs. Jones, with help from the group leaders mentioned. Home nursing has been taught by invitation in the Alpine school district since 1940 with all the public health nurses, Mrs. Loy uoss, miss Mildred Allred, Mrs Eunice Broush Tolboe and Mrs Jones haying served as instruc tors. Elders, Guests Theater Party OREM A group of Elders and their partners of Sharon ward met at the ward hall Thursday evening, where games were play ed and a delicious tray lunch was served by Mr. and 'Mrs. Doug Hawkins, Mr. and Mrs. Kent Watts and arranged by Mr. and Mrs. Reed Rowley. The games under the supervision of Kent Watts, were capably conducted by Joseph Bateman. The group then attended the theater. Others enjoying the affair were Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Larsen, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Josie, Mr. Stanley Hadlock, Mr. and Mrs. O. Q. Diversion for the evenins was in the form of pinochle with Mrs. Laurence Peay winning high score prize. A tasty supper fol lowed the pinochle games. Six Months Jn -Spain Told Of SPANISH FORK Mrs. Delila Hughes was hostess to the Self Culture club Friday evening with ten members and special guests attending, Mesdames Fern Brock-bank, Brock-bank, Mary Brockbank, Ruth Brockbank, J. W. Hagan, Ida Robertson, Florence Faux Henry l Angus; Preston Hughes, Reed Hushes. Cora Gardner, Lorin Crear, Chauncy Rowe and Mrs. Lydia Stahman, president who was in charge. Delicious refreshments were served with Edna Brockbank, Maurine and Jean Hughes assisting assist-ing the hostess, after which community com-munity singing was led by Ethel Anderson accompanied by Miss Cora Gardner. Mrs. Chauncy Rowe, took the remainder of the time and told in a very entertaining enter-taining manner of her six months stay in Spain, which gave a vivid picture of the manners and customs cus-toms of the people of Barcelona. She also showed some money, an-j tiques and beautiful souveniers Miss LaRue Maw To Study At Y La Rue Maw, daughter of Gov ernor and Mrs. Herbert B. Maw. was among the new students who registered for the winter quarter at the Brigham Young university. Miss Maw, a senior, majoring in secondary education, has come tc the Y for special musical training. Club Lesson On "Landscaping" SPANISH FORK Members of the Anthenaeum club were en tertained at the home of Mrs. Ora Draper Wednesday evening. Pres ident Marian Hales was in charge. Music was directed by Mrs. Eva Child, with Blanche Hales at the piano. The Salute to the Flag was given by the members with Han-na Han-na Thomas directing. Club collect was given by Vera Bowen. The lesson, "Landscaping," was given by Sylvia Swenson. Musical numbers num-bers were given by Mrs. Gladys Christmas. Refreshments were served to 15 members and two guests. Birthday Party Fetes Small Girl Mrs. James Judd entertained with a birthday party Tuesday afternoon for her little daughter, Muriel, who was six years old. Little friends attending were Naomi and Merta Rae Sorenson, Gayle Hanson, Mary Lyn Fifield, Susan Startup, Saundra Cameron, Hope Rasmussen, Cady Joy Ove-son, Ove-son, Peggy Jones and Mariba Judd. A large white birthday cake aglow with tiny blue candles, delighted the guests. Games were played and gay colored balloons were given as favors. LAKE SHORE Mr. and Mrs Lynn J. Davis were honored at a wedding reception at the Lake Shore L.D.S. chapel Wednesday evening, Jan. 22, when 400 rela tives and friends gathered to pay them honor. - The newly weds were united in marriage Jan. 20 in the Salt Lake LuD.S. temple. - The bride is the former Betty Jean Otteson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Huff of Lake Shore. The"' chapel was aglow with candle light and bouquets of flowers formed a background for the receiving line where the bride and groom, her matron of;honor, Mrs. Bernice Dell and five lovely bridesmaids, Pauline Sorenson, Merlene Grotegut, Jenean Peden, Carol Jean Smart, attired in pastel pas-tel shades; Owen Zobell, best man and the parents of the bride received. Two tiny flower girls, Beth Huff, sister of the bride and Karen Clayson were in the line Mrs. Davis wore luxurious satin dress with a sweetheart neckline edged with lace and satin flow era. The skirt of the dress was a flounce of net decorated with tiny satin flowers. A beautiful net veil added the finishing touch to the gown. She wore a corsage of gar denias and roses. When the line broke an enjoy able program was announced by B. Davis Evans as master. of cere monies. Following the program, the bridal party led the way to the amusement hall where dancing was the main amusement. Re freshments were served during the dancing period. A large four tiered wedding cake was the cen ter of interest in the refreshment room. Mrs. Mark Huff assisted bv seven ladies was in charge of the refreshments. The bride's many lovely gifts were shown by Mrs. Bessie Atwood and Mrs. Teressa Sorenson. 1 19th Century Club At Meeting "Faith of our Fathers Brought up fo Date" was the subject presented pre-sented interested 19th Century club members by Mrs. Kirk Le-ander Le-ander during the meeting Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Leslie H. Carle. Following the program, tasty refreshments were served to members, Mrs. Edwin F. Irwin, Mrs. M. A. Daugherty, Mrs. O. Earl Thomas, Mrs. V. R Busterud, Mrs. Katharine Baker, Mrs. O. A. Ferguson of 904 North Second East street, married January 10, 1897, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary recently with a reception at the family fam-ily home where a. delicious turkey dinner was enjoyed and numerous flowers and gifts received. Among the gifts received, was a refrigerator from the children of the guests of .honor. Mr. and Mrs. Ferguson have lived in Provo for 43 years having joined the L D S church in Pennsylvania in 1897, leaving immediately after, for Utah. The Fergusons are parents of seven children, six boys and one daughter, Ivan W. Ferguson of Monroe, Florence Judkins of Greenwich, Orin R. Ferguson of Richfield, George K. Ferguson, Robert B. Ferguson, Norman E. Ferguson Fer-guson and Garth A. Ferguson of Provo. They -are grandparents grand-parents of 25 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
