Show ValMorn Dinner-Dance Carrying out the theme, "Intermezzo," "Inter-mezzo," the traditional formal dinner-dance of the Val Norn so-rial so-rial unit at BYU was held Saturday Satur-day evening in the banquet hall of the Joseph Smith building. Over 50 active members of the social unit and their partners were present at the affair and the theme was carried out appropriately in modern designs of blue, white and silver. The program during the dinner, under the direction of toastmistress, Lucple Booth,' featured fea-tured a special arangement of the theme song "Intermezzo" sung by a ladies' trio. The Val Norn Sweetheart song was also sung by the trio consisting of Carol Wheelwright, Wheel-wright, Shiralee Harding and Janice Peterson. Genuine leather .-address books, monogramed "V. N." were given to the guests as favors. Patrons were: Mrs. Orea B. Tanner, sponsor; Mrs. Lillian Booth, Dr. and Mrs. Wayne B. Hales, Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Pax- man and Mr. and Mrs. Weldon Taylor. S Provo Matron I Feted By Family; Saturday Dinner Mrs. Hattie D. Carter celebrated cele-brated her seventy-eighth birthday birth-day anniversary Friday, and in her honor, a family dinner was held at the home of a daughter, Mrs. C. F. Johnson, Saturday evening. eve-ning. Carnations proved attractive as decorations. Lovely gifts were presented to the guest of honor from the 25 family members present, pres-ent, who included children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Carter has lived in Provo practically all of her life and for the past several years has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Johnson. Dinner Party For Cozette Members A dinner, followed by the game bingo, proved delightful to members mem-bers of the Cozette club Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Marjorie Mar-jorie Breinholt. Mrs. Maxine Elliott won the high score -prize and Mrs. Doyle Clark, the second favor. Mrs. Erma Evans was honored for her birthday anniversary, and was nresented with a lovely gift. A birthday cake decorated the din ins -table. Guests included: Mrs. Ann Swindlehurst. FOO YUNG Chop onions, celery, water chestnuts and meat or seafood. Combine this mixture wun some well-beaten eggs. Pour some oil on a well-heated frying pan, and drop spoonfuls of this mixture in it. Brown each side and remove to a hot jlatter. Add Chinese sauce to water with a small amount of cornstarch; cook this mixture for a few minutes. Pour sauce over pancakes or place pancakes into sauce and cook for a few minutes. BEAN CHOWDER One cup dry beans. 1 cup diced carrots, 1 cup tomatoes, V cup shredded green pepper, 1 onion, chopped fine; 2 teaspoons salt, 2 tablespoons uncooked cracked wheat, or 1 tablespoon flour, 2 cups milk, pepper to taste. . Soak the beans overnight in 14 quarts of cold water. Cook in a covered pan until the beans begin to soiten. tnen aaa tne vegetaoies , ana cook until tender. Add salt and cracked wheat or flour mixed with a little cold .water. Stir. Cook about 30 minutes. Add the milk and; pepper, heat to boiling, and serve. Red Cross Home Nursing Classes Graduate Two more Red Cross home nursing units have completed their 12-weeks" courses and last week the members were presented their certificates at graduation exercises held in the Public library. Orem Women's Club Elects A permanent organization was effected at a meeting of the recently re-cently formed Orem Women's club, held at the Scera theater. Blake of Washington, D. C, national na-tional director of the women's division of the war finance committee, when she arrives in Provo today. The meeting is thrown open to all persons interested, men and women alike, announces an-nounces Mrs. H. B. Mensel, chairman of the Utah county women's division, which is in charge of the meeting to be held at 3 p. m. in the Joseph Smith building. Miss Blake, is here to launch the Seventh War Loan drive, which gets under way May 14 and will continue through June 30. She is making stops also in Salt Lake City and Ogden, on her western trip, meeting with state and county war loan drive workers. The distinguished educator, psychologist and author hs a vital message to bring to every worker in the field of bond selling and is hoped that a large crowd will be in attendance. Born in New York City, Miss Blake received re-ceived her -B. A. at Adelphl college, New York, and a doctor's degree in education from the school of education at Harvard university.
