Show 19th Century Club Elects Mrs. Leon Miller was elected president of the Nineteenth Cent ury dub next year, at a meet ing held Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. J. M. Vick. Mrs. Miller succeeds Mrs. O. A Spear, who presided. Otlfer women wo-men elected to office were Mrs George Larsen, vie president; Mrs Arthur McCoy, recording secre tary; Mrs. Leslie Carle, corresponding corre-sponding secretary; Mrs. C. E. Berry, treasurer; Mrs. L. G. Baker program chairman, with Mrs. W. J. Werve and Mrs. W. H. Olsen. Mrs. Milton Baake was wef corned into the club. The next meeting will be dispensed dis-pensed with, and instead of the regular program, the women will do Red Cross surgical dressings at the Masonic temple. Members attending were: Mrs. J. J. Provo Lions At Holladay Party Sixteen Provo Lions and their wives attended the charter night of the Holladay Lions club Thursday Thurs-day night. The Holladay club with 54 charter char-ter members, brought the total number of Lions clubs in Utah to 57 and the total membership to 1500. Provo is now the second largest club in the state and had the largest increase in January, according ac-cording to President Eldon G. McKell. Speaker at the charter night was Sgt. Fielding K. . Reynolds and three - year - old daughter, Ann, who have just arrived from L'dnver, Colo., for a few days' visit with their parents, par-ents, Mrs. Don W. Conover and Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Reynolds. Dr. Reynolds received re-ceived his doctor's degree from Denver university school of medicine, March 19, and will interne at the Denver General hospital. He is a graduate of the B. Y. U. and attended attend-ed the U. of U. for three years. Mrs. Reynolds is the former Elizabeth Eliza-beth Conover. Scholarship For Nurse Announced SPANISH FORK The nine Federated Women's clubs of Spanish Fork have raised a fund of $250 for a scholarship for a student nurse from the Spanish Fork district. Plans are being made foil a graduate nurse to speak to all those interested, at a meeting to be held in the near future. Applications should be sent an an accredited hospital in the state, and members of the president's council of the Women's clubs, which include: Mrs. Niel Thomas, president; Mrs. Vivian Gardner, secretary; Mrs. Adelia Knudsen, co-ordinator; Mrs. J. VISITS RELATIVES SPANISH FORK Mrs. Evelyn Jones, president of the Third ward Relief society left the past weekend week-end to visit her son-in-law and daughter, Mr; and Mrs. Glen Reiff at Kansas City, Kansas. Mr. and Mrs. Reiff are the happy par-, ents of a baby giri, born a few days ago. The mother is the former for-mer Miss Lora Jones and the parents moved recently from California Cali-fornia to Kansas iCty. American Fork Visitor Departs AMERICAN FORK Miss Emma Em-ma Southworth has returned to Washington, D. C, , after visiting with friends in American Fork; with her mother, Mrs. A. C. Nelson Nel-son in Tremonton; her sister, Mrs. Charles Truex in Lark, and with friends and relatives in Salt Lake and Ogden. Miss Southworth and her mother moth-er and sister, little Miss Elaine Nelson, spent four days visiting with brother and son, Kenneth K. Southworth, S. K. 1st class, U. S. N., at the home of J. Harold Kershaw in San Diego. They also spent one night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Karl Kelly (Stella Cunningham) at Inglewood, Calif. The Kellys formerly were from American Fork. Friends here of Kenneth will be interested in knowing he has received one star each for three major battles; one star for surviving sur-viving the sinking f the U. S. S. A. auxiliary and their partners at a delightful evening's entertainment held Friday in the library of the Joaquin school. The large room was made cozy with flags of the allied nations, and plants and flowers in great variety. A pledge pt allegiance to the flag was led by Mrs. A. D. Scott, and -the program follows: Patriotic prayer, Mrs. Ariel Ballif; original poem, Mrs. Jennie Newell; vocal solo, Ariel Ballif; talk. Major T. C. Hebertson; short story, J. R. HOdson. Couple Here; Family Party Honoring their son, Sgt. Jack Ellison, and his wife, here from Indianapolis, Indiana, Mr. and Mr.s John Ellison gave a family social at their home Friday evening. . Sgt. Ellison is in the medical corps of the army and is on two weeks' furlough. The couple will return to Indiana, today. A variety of amusing games were played, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Jones and Max Andrews winning prizes. Guest favors went to the honored couple. A delicious lunch was served. Mrs. Dean Jensen and Mrs. Horace Magleby gave reports on a federated meeting meet-ing thev had attended in Spring-ville. Spring-ville. The lesson for the evening wail given by Mrs. Clark Williams Wil-liams on "American Canyons," by Daniel Marsh. A beautiful hand-painted picture by Mrs. Bessie Gourley has been presented pre-sented to the club. The picture is being displayed at the J. C. Penney store, and is being sold for the benefit of the Red Cross. The picture will be presented to its new owner March 31 at the Angelus theater, Woman Signs Ud For WAAC Service AMERICAN FORK Mrs. Elaine B. Long, enlistee in the women's Auxiliary Army Corps, left Saturday for Des Moines, Iowa, WAAC training base. Mrs. Long attended Richfield high school, graduated rrom a Salt Lake business school and for the past five months has been employed em-ployed in an airplane factory in Her husband, Leslie Leo Long, El Dorado, Kansas, wag reported missing in action last May following the fall of Mindanao In the Phillipines. She has two brothers, Sergeant Merrill Busk and Private 'Grant Busk, both with the U. S. forces in North Africa. Mrs. Charles Warenski of Highland High-land is their mothre. r Nurses' Aides To Graduate Climaxing an 80-hour coiirse, 14 Provo women, representing the third corps, Red Cross volunteer nurse's aides, will graduate at exercises tonight at 6:30 at the Fourth ward chapel. R. J. Murdock, county commissioner, com-missioner, will be principar speaker, speak-er, others responding to include in-clude Dr. J. J. Weight, emergency medical director, OCD, Mrs. Fred R. Taylor Jr., and Mrs. W. C. Miller, co-chairmen of volunteer special services. Dr. Weight wil induct the nurse's aides into the service of the civilian defense. The first and second corps as well as the graduating grad-uating third corps wil take part at the services. SPANISH FORK The Alta club met at the home of Mrs. P. P. Thomas, Friday afternoon. President Mrs. Martha Jones presided. pre-sided. Singing was directed by Mrs. Phebe Hughes and Mrs. Fern Brockbank led in the salute 1 to the flag. Argyle of Spanish Fork has recently enrolled in the Women's Wo-men's Auxiliary Army Corps in Salt Lake City according to wcrd received by her parents and frier.ds here. She graduated from the Spanish Fork high school in 1338 and has recently been empLocd at the Ogden arsenal. Miss Argyle will soon be crlled to begin her four weeks of t isic training in one of the three W AC training centers.
